The Baltimore Ravens lost an absolute heartbreaker in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills after surrendering a 15-point lead in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. Ravens star Derrick Henry played a huge role in the Ravens offensive dominance last week, but his costly fumble allowed the Bills to get back in the game and steal a victory.
He’s off to a quiet start in Week 2, as the Ravens offense looked a shell of itself in the first half against the Browns.
What Happened to Derrick Henry?
Henry had a tough first half in Week 2. He is healthy and has been active in the game. It’s nothing like last week, though, he only had five rush yards in the first half.
He did fumble in this game as well, taking his tally to two in two games.

The Ravens struggled overall on the ground with only 14 first-half yards. It’s not just Henry who is struggling; the whole rushing offense is. It’s uncharacteristic to see the Ravens struggle to move the ball on the ground with Henry and Lamar Jackson, but the Browns defense was up for the task.

The Ravens were doing just fine as the Browns’ offense has struggled as well. The Browns put up three points in the first half and the Ravens are still in control of the divisional matchup. The Ravens did not need Henry to figure it out for them to pull away from the Browns.
The Ravens trounced the Browns 41-17 despite Henry’s limited contribution. Henry finished with 11 carries for 24 yards, coming out to 2.2 yards per carry. It was a dramatic fall off from last week, but likely won’t happen again if Henry’s track record has anything to say about it.
He was inactive in the receiving game, too, with no receptions. It was an uncharacteristic game for Henry, but it’s not time to panic, yet, especially after seeing his dominant game in Week 1.
Henry’s Week 1 Performance
Henry’s Week 1 performance was phenomenal. Henry ran the ball 18 times for 169 yards while adding one catch for 13 yards on the receiving end. He got himself in the endzone twice as well to pile on to his great performance. He averaged a ridiculous 9.4 yards per carry against the Bills. He doesn’t even have nine yards against the Browns.
Henry is very likely to find a way to get going by the end of the game. All he needs is one carry that he can break off a long one to ice the game for the Ravens. They haven’t been feeding him like they did in Week 1 because of their struggles running the ball. It’s not ideal for Henry and those who own him in fantasy, but the Ravens and their fans won’t as long as they get their first win of the season.
Henry’s Fantasy Outlook
Kyle Soppe of PFSN wrote the following blurb about Henry in his Week 2 Fantasy Football Start/Sit Cheat Sheet:
I was taught very young in my research career that there is only one rule to fully accept: there is always an exception to every rule.
You know Derrick Henry is an all-timer bc even the nerds have abandoned the usual carries/age arguments when it comes to him. Like everyone just acknowledges he isn’t a real person.

She’s not wrong, and I love the idea of spending the next four months crafting ultra-unique stats to try to contextualize what he continues to do.
If you extend Henry’s per-game averages from his last six games (including the playoffs) over a full 17-game regular season:
- 2,511 rushing yards (406 more than the NFL record)
- 23 rush TDs
The term #BuiltDifferent doesn’t even really begin to describe King Henry. He came up a few carries shy of those arbitrary thresholds last January when the Browns came to Baltimore (20 totes for 138 yards and two scores), but that doesn’t matter. He’s close to inevitable when you think the Ravens are going to be playing in a favorable or neutral script.
That’s going to be the case most weeks, and he was viewed as a monster favorite this week.
Unfortunately, Henry did not prove to be inevitable against the Browns as they kept him in check all day. Fantasy owners are very disappointed that Henry couldn’t replicate his Week 1 performance, but Henry has disproved any evidence of him slowing down completely.
