The fantasy football season is in full swing, and savvy managers are already navigating the tricky waters of player availability and potential. Week 2 brings fresh opportunities and tough decisions as rosters face their first real tests. Injury reports are rolling in, creating headaches and hidden gems for those willing to dig deeper.
Darnell Mooney Injury Update
Darnell Mooney had a shot to play in Week 1, but the Atlanta Falcons ultimately kept him out to give him one more week to heal from his preseason shoulder injury. Mooney should be ready for Week 2’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

Mooney logged a limited practice on Wednesday (9/10) and is trending towards playing after getting one more week of rest in Week 1.

Mooney Fantasy Outlook
Mooney is coming off a career year in terms of fantasy production relative to expectation, fantasy points per target, and yards per route. The success was great to see after a pair of down seasons with the Bears, and it resurfaced the idea of him being a legitimate WR2 in a productive offense.
However, any momentum he built entering 2025 was lost with a summer shoulder injury that cost him the season opener against the Buccaneers. This offense could undoubtedly use a consistent WR2 to aid the development of Michael Penix Jr.. Still, with Bijan Robinson and, jokes aside, Kyle Pitts as viable target earners, I think it’s fair to label Mooney’s 2024 production as a ceiling for per-game output.

This is a situation to watch closely. Your IR spot isn’t overly valuable this early in the season, but should this injury linger, there’s a good chance you will be asked to make a tough decision, and I won’t be fighting hard to keep Mooney rostered if that’s the case.

Mooney’s Week 2 Return Brings Mixed Fantasy Signals
Mooney’s anticipated return against Minnesota presents opportunity and caution for fantasy managers. While his limited Wednesday practice suggests readiness, concerns about his shoulder injury linger over his long-term reliability.

The Falcons desperately need a consistent secondary receiver to complement their offensive weapons, potentially boosting Mooney’s target share. However, managers should temper expectations given the crowded target competition from Robinson and Pitts. This situation demands close monitoring as the season progresses.
