Angel Reese dropped a bombshell that has the entire WNBA talking. The Chicago Sky star didn’t just voice frustration with her teammates or question the franchise’s direction. She opened the door to a potential trade, making it clear her patience has limits. If the reports swirling around the league hold any truth, Reese might be planning her exit from the organization that drafted her just over a year ago.
How Did Sky Head Coach Tyler Marsh React to Angel Reese’s Explosive Interview?
Before their matchup with the Connecticut Sun, Sky head coach Tyler Marsh addressed Reese’s recent interview with The Chicago Tribune. While keeping his response measured, Marsh confirmed the organization is still processing her comments.
“I haven’t read the whole article. I’ve seen bits and pieces from it. So yea, we are aware of it. We’re addressing it in house as we’re currently speaking, so that’s [what we’ll] state right now,” Marsh said.
However, he quickly shifted to defending Reese, emphasizing her previous dedication to the team.

“I think that Angel has shown a commitment to wanting to be here. I think that we as an organization continue to show a commitment that we want people that want to be here. And that we’re developing a…setting a lane, a foundation here, that we want to be sustainable, where we’re able to be a premier destination for all players. And so that’s kind of where we’re at,” Marsh added.
Reese, 23, was the Sky’s first-round pick, seventh overall, in 2024. She is currently averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Despite the Sky’s struggles this season, Reese has established herself as one of the WNBA’s brightest young stars. The criticism cuts both ways. Some point to Reese’s inability to elevate the Sky’s performance, while others argue the organization hasn’t surrounded her with enough talent to compete at the highest level.
What Did Angel Reese Say About the Chicago Sky?
During her September 3 interview with The Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe, Reese delivered her message without sugarcoating anything. The 23-year-old laid out her vision and made it clear she’s prepared to explore other options if necessary.
“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese stated. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”
Reese also questioned the team’s building strategy around sidelined veteran Courtney Vandersloot. Instead, she advocated bringing in someone younger with experience to lead the team. She expressed doubts about rookie Hayley Van Lith and veteran Rachel Banham filling that role, insisting the position requires championship experience.
Adding to the Sky’s challenges, Reese herself was sidelined with a back injury, which further limited the team’s ability to string together victories. Following their 88-64 victory over the Sun, the Sky will face the Indiana Fever in their next game.
