LaNorris Sellers turned heads in 2024, earning SEC Freshman of the Year, FWAA National Freshman Offensive Player of the Year, and freshman All-American recognition after a breakout first season. The South Carolina quarterback has already caught the attention of NFL scouts, with projections placing him as a possible top-10 selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
However, Sellers isn’t just focused on football. This past summer, he worked an internship in Columbia, showing the maturity that has impressed coaches and teammates alike. Meanwhile, rival programs have been actively trying to lure the rising star away from South Carolina.
What Is LaNorris Sellers Doing Off the Field and How Does It Shape His Future?
LaNorris Sellers has been balancing his football success with serious preparation for life beyond the sport. During the summer, Sellers completed an internship in Columbia, South Carolina, that connected directly to his academic pursuits.
The quarterback is pursuing a sport and entertainment management degree at the University of South Carolina. Head coach Shane Beamer confirmed the internship tied directly to Sellers’ major and praised the young quarterback for actively seeking opportunities that could expand his future beyond football.
Beamer pointed to Sellers’ maturity and work ethic as key reasons for his steady growth both on and off the field.
“His life, his world has changed from last year at this time to right now because of what he did last season,” Beamer said. “But he’s got a great family around him. He came back in January knowing the things he needed to work on to get better at. He’s done a great job of working hard and improving, all while staying grounded and staying the same person.”

The head coach also noted that the team’s added depth would ease pressure on Sellers as he enters his second year as the starter, allowing him to focus on his natural development.
“I think we’re going to be better around LaNorris as well on the offense, more depth and competition at pretty much every position I feel like. That’s going to help him. He doesn’t have to be Superman for us. Just continue to be the person he is, the leader that he is, and the player that he is, and watch him continue to take the next step.”
How Did Sellers’ Breakthrough Season Set Up His NFL Draft Stock?
On the field, Sellers built serious momentum during his sophomore campaign that has NFL scouts taking notice. He finished the 2024-25 season completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 2,534 yards, along with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His versatility also showed in the run game, where he rushed for 674 yards and scored seven times on the ground.
The performance that truly announced Sellers’ arrival came in the rivalry game against Clemson on November 30. In that stunning 17-14 upset, he threw for 164 yards and added 166 rushing yards with two touchdowns. His second score proved to be the game winner, a decisive run on third-and-16 with just over a minute left that secured the victory.
That clutch performance capped off what became a memorable season for the Gamecocks. South Carolina closed the regular season with a 9-3 record before falling to Illinois in the Citrus Bowl, but the foundation was clearly set for bigger things ahead.
With his combination of on-field production and off-field maturity, Sellers has positioned himself as one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft. The internship experience and academic focus show NFL teams a player who understands that preparation extends far beyond the football field.
