The college football season is finally here, and the Michigan Wolverines are ready to chase their old glory under head coach Sherrone Moore. One question that’s been buzzing among fans: Is wide receiver Fredrick Moore related to the head coach?

Despite the shared last name, there’s no family connection. But that doesn’t mean Fredrick won’t play a major role for Michigan this season; in fact, expectations are high.
Fredrick, a former three-star recruit, showed flashes of his potential last year, even if his stats didn’t fully reflect it. He finished the 2024 season with 11 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown, ranking fifth in receiver snaps. But Michigan’s passing game has been revamped under coordinator Chip Lindsey, and freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood will need dependable targets.
At 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds, Underwood’s looking for reliable options downfield, and Moore could be one of the key weapons alongside graduate Donaven McCulley, the clear-cut starter outside, and senior tight end Marlin Klein.

Fredrick’s talent was displayed in Michigan’s 19-13 ReliaQuest Bowl win over Alabama. He hauled in a contested 15-yard touchdown and added two other catches for 37 yards. That game hinted at what he’s capable of, showing flashes of the leadership and playmaking ability Michigan hopes he brings this season. The opportunity is there; it’s now about Moore taking advantage of it.
Moore Expected to Step Up in 2025
Coach Moore has made it clear that Fredrick is expected to step up. Now a junior, he is in line to fill the void in the receiving corps. He’s being asked to grow into a confident, reliable, and primary contributor in 2025.

Fredrick expects more than just numbers. He is a threat in several scenarios due to his versatility and athleticism, which allow him to line up outside, in the slot, or even take carries in the backfield. By mid-2025, he had shown steady physical growth, maintaining his explosiveness while accumulating lean muscle. The hope is that he can take that big next step for Michigan this season.
So while Fredrick and Sherrone don’t relate by blood, sharing a field practically makes them family. A brotherhood is being built in Michigan, and this season is no different. This time around, the expectations are higher, and both coach and player will be pushing each other to compete at the highest level.
