Tim Tebow: The Real Influence Behind No. 15

In a recent tweet, Raiola explained: “Despite the Mahomes connection… Dylan Raiola says he wears number 15 for another QB. ‘I look up to people that have great character.’ @TimTebow.”

Raiola elaborated on his reasoning: “I wore 15 when I was in my first year of football. Tim Tebow, you know, strong Christian person, played football… I look up to people that have great character.”

Tim Tebow’s legendary career at the University of Florida left an impression on many young athletes, including Raiola. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and led Florida to two BCS National Championships, combining on-field success with leadership and character.

Although Raiola was very young when Tebow played, the Nebraska quarterback clearly holds Tebow in high regard, not just for his football achievements but also for the example he set off the field.

A Record-Breaking Freshman Season at Nebraska

Raiola’s freshman campaign at Nebraska in 2024 was nothing short of remarkable. He threw for 2,819 yards, completing 275 of 410 passes for a 67.1% completion rate, both program records for a freshman. In addition, Raiola tallied 13 touchdowns and started all 13 games, showcasing poise and leadership beyond his years.

His achievements earned him a spot as a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award. On the national level, Raiola led all FBS freshmen and ranked 13th nationally in completion percentage. Among all true freshmen, he ranked third in passing yards. His performance cemented him as one of the top young quarterbacks in college football.

Why Character Matters to Raiola

For Raiola, football is about more than just statistics. By choosing No. 15 in honor of Tebow, he signals that leadership, integrity, and character are just as important as athletic ability. As he continues to develop at Nebraska, fans and analysts alike are noticing how these qualities set him apart on and off the field.

Raiola’s connection to Tebow also speaks to his mindset. He isn’t simply trying to emulate a superstar; he’s modeling himself after someone who balanced excellence with values, providing a role model both for teammates and young fans alike.
