Bonzi Has a 3-0 Head-to-Head Lead Over Daniil Medvedev After US Open 1R Win

Bonzi got off to a flying start at the US Open as he took the first two sets 6-3, 7-5, and had a match point at 5-4 in the third set when a moment of controversy took place. A photographer entered the court just as the Frenchman was about to serve, and later, Medvedev had an argument with chair umpire Greg Allensworth that caused further delay.

Bonzi was unable to convert the match point and the Russian went on to win the set and the next one to force the match into a decider. However, the 29-year-old eventually held his nerve to register a 6-3, 7-5, 6-7(5), 0-6, 6-4 win and book his place in the second round of the US Open.

After beating the Russian, Bonzi will take on Marcos Giron and whoever out of the two comes out on top, will lock horns with either 18th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Arthur Rinderknech in the third round of the US Open.
