Cowboys rookie RB Jaydon Blue has battled injury all preseason, but with the preseason finale here, fans are eager to see his long-awaited debut.

The Dallas Cowboys are set to close out their preseason against the Atlanta Falcons at AT&T Stadium, but the biggest story surrounds a rookie who has yet to play a single snap.

Why Is Jaydon Blue’s Potential Debut So Critical for the Cowboys?

Throughout training camp, Jaydon Blue’s explosiveness captured attention, but his availability has remained a persistent mystery. While the Cowboys have been cautious with injured players, the running back’s recent return to practice has sparked speculation that he may finally get to showcase his abilities under the stadium lights.

According to reports from PFSN’s Sean Neumann, Blue had been sidelined by a bruised heel and ankle in recent weeks. That setback slowed the momentum he had built early in camp.

Despite the uncertainty, HC Brian Schottenheimer sounded encouraged about his status. “Trending positively,” Schottenheimer said. “Again, we’ll see how he does, but hopeful that he can get out there and play, but again, I’ll get some more updates. I’m optimistic and hopeful that he plays.”

This cautious approach makes sense, especially considering how valuable Blue could be for Dallas moving forward. The rookie was unavailable for the first two preseason games, but his return to practice earlier this week suggests significant progress. That development has fueled expectations that he could finally make his Cowboys debut against Atlanta.

The timing is critical for the young running back. With Javonte Williams likely to open the season as the starter, the depth chart behind him remains completely unsettled.

Blue is competing with Miles Sanders, Phil Mafah, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn for carries, which makes every opportunity essential. He appears to have the most to gain, especially if he can showcase his trademark speed and receiving skills in a live game situation.

During his final season with the Texas Longhorns, Blue recorded 730 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, while also hauling in 42 receptions for 368 yards and six additional scores. Those numbers highlight his potential as a dual-threat weapon for Schottenheimer’s offense, provided he can translate that success to the professional level.

For now, Dallas appears to be balancing optimism with caution. While nothing is guaranteed, the signs point toward Blue finally stepping onto the field tonight. If he delivers the type of explosive plays seen in Austin, he could secure not just a roster spot but also a meaningful role heading into Week 1.
