After a two-year hiatus, could a former Minnesota Viking return to support an ailing wide receiver room? Following the three-game suspension to Jordan Addison, Minnesota has dealt with injuries to star wideout Justin Jefferson and fourth-year pro Jalen Nailor.
While Jefferson and Nailor appear on track to take the field week one, the Vikings’ general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, may still play his hand.
Three-Time 1,000-Plus Yard Receiver Joining Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison?
After nine seasons in the purple and gold, Adam Thielen joined the Carolina Panthers, where he has remained ever since. Now, with a strong receiver room building in Carolina, is it time the 64-career TD man moves again?
The X post from JPA details a sentiment from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, who claims several names are on the Vikings’ radar.
𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗦: The #Vikings could be a team to watch to potentially reunite with Adam Thielen, says @TomPelissero

“There are several names it could end up being, but one of them is somebody Vikings fans know well, Adam Thielen in Carolina,” said Pelissero. “Potentially, could they find a way to bring Thielen, the Minnesota native, back home. That is one of the names to keep an eye on.”
While Thielen is entering his 12th NFL season, the 34-year-old remains one of the most reliable receivers in the league. PFSN’s Gerald Ng echoes the sentiment, saying, “His veteran presence and sure hands would benefit J.J. McCarthy as he enters his first season as a starting quarterback in the NFL.”
As exciting a return as it would be, is this something Minnesota and Carolina could be in harmony about?
Why Does Adam Thielen’s Leaving Carolina for Minnesota Make Sense?
Since leaving Minnesota, Thielen has been the primary target for Panthers’ quarterbacks. With Bryce Young coming off a firm conclusion to the 2024 season, Carolina has prioritized bolstering their receiver room.
Panthers general manager Dan Morgan and Carolina brass decided to select Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall in this year’s draft. This comes after they selected Xavier Legette in the first round just a season ago.

With a clear emphasis on building Young’s core of weapons, Carolina also added Hunter Renfrow (free agency) and Jimmy Horn Jr. (2025 draft). Both players have thoroughly impressed in training camp and preseason to this point. With that said, where does that leave Thielen?
The Minnesota State product is currently listed as the team’s WR3, which is more than likely where he would end up if he were to return to the Vikings.
Despite the similarities in positioning, the longtime Viking returning to his hometown makes sense. Jefferson and Addison (when he returns) will carry the load as crucial playmakers, whereas Thielen will serve as the consistently reliable option to McCarthy.
Minnesota also has the seventh-oldest roster in the NFL, hinting at the desire to win now. Thielen would contribute to this, as he, too, is entering a do-or-die portion of his career. With the NFL regular season kicking off two weeks from Thursday, is there enough time for each team to decide and make the right move for one another?
