The 2025 US Open is just around the corner, with tennis fans worldwide watching every move of the top players. As the year’s final Grand Slam approaches, all eyes are on the biggest stars preparing for the tournament. But out of nowhere, major news has broken about Coco Gauff’s coaching situation that has left the tennis world stunned.
What Change Did Coco Gauff Make in Her Coaching Team?
The 21-year-old American tennis star has parted ways with Matt Daly, who helped guide her to her second Grand Slam title at this year’s French Open. In his place, Gauff has brought in biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan, who joins her other coach, JC Faurel, at the US Open.
This sudden shake-up comes as a surprise, given that Daly had been working with Gauff since September 2024, after she parted ways with Brad Gilbert following her exit from that year’s US Open.

Why is Gauff’s Recent Form Concerning?
Gauff’s decision comes after a series of disappointing results following her French Open triumph. Her serve has become a major concern, with the American leading the WTA tour in double faults this season, having produced 320 of those in just 47 matches so far. Her struggles were particularly evident during the North American hard-court swing, where she hit 23 double faults in a single match against Danielle Collins at the Canadian Open.
The serving problems continued at the Cincinnati Open, where she served 16 double faults in her quarterfinal defeat to Jasmine Paolini. These numbers have frustrated Gauff, who admitted after her match in Montreal that she was “disappointed” with her serving performance.
Former Serena Williams coach Rick Macci recently gave his take about Gauff’s situation, stating that the 21-year-old doesn’t need to “subtract” coaches but needs to “add” to her team to address her technical issues.
Asked if Coco needs to change her coaching situation. No. She does not need to SUBTRACT needs to ADD. Why this has not been done the past three years is a mystery because this champion could rewrite history. The REAL cause and effect is very easy to address if not under extreme…

The American enters the US Open as the third seed, having dropped a spot in the WTA rankings following Iga Świątek’s Cincinnati Open triumph.
