Felony Charge Puts LSU RB JT Lindsey’s Football Future With Tigers in Jeopardy, Per Insider

LSU running back JT Lindsey faces serious legal trouble, with an insider revealing how his felony charge could impact his future with the Tigers.

LSU freshman running back JT Lindsey turned himself in to police on Friday, August 8, after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a felony count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

An LSU insider has revealed the background of these charges and what they could mean for the Tigers’ offense in 2025 and beyond. Is Lindsey’s time in Baton Rouge over before it even started?

Felony Charges Threaten LSU Running Back JT Lindsey’s Future with Tigers

According to WAFB, Baton Rouge’s ABC affiliate, Lindsey turned himself in to police on Friday, August 8. He was a four-star member of LSU’s 2025 recruiting class.

He was arrested on a felony count of accessory after the fact to murder in connection with a May shooting that left a 17-year-old boy dead.

LSU insider Matt Mascona explained on the “Locked On LSU” podcast that Lindsey allowed two friends — those wanted for the original crime — to stay in his LSU dorm room. Authorities say that made him an accessory to the murder and led to the felony charges.

“The problem is that these two men who stayed with Lindsey were wanted for murder,” Moscona said. “And so Lindsey, by allowing them to stay with him, according to police, made him an accessory, which is a felony.”

When police searched Lindsey’s dorm room, according to WAFB, they found two AR-15 rifles, an AK-47 pistol (also known as a “Draco”), and a Glock pistol. Mascona noted that there is currently no update on the status of his arrest.

While Lindsey has not yet had his day in court and the charges are not official, it is more than likely that he will not be playing for the Tigers for the foreseeable future.

Mascona explained that according to LSU’s handbook code, Lindsey is likely to be suspended. He believes the Tigers will need to move forward without the young running back in 2025, leaving LSU with little depth at the position.

“If he is [suspended], that means you have three scholarship running backs on this roster,” Mascona said. “Caden Durham, Kaleb Jackson, Harlem Berry. That’s it.”

A potential suspension for Lindsey is a major concern for LSU. With just three running backs on the roster, any injuries could create serious problems for the Tigers in 2025. That could lead to the same rushing struggles they experienced last year when they finished the 2024 season ranked 107th in the nation on the ground.

It is important to note that there is still much to learn about Lindsey’s arrest and his status for the 2025 season. While he turned himself in on the felony counts, that does not guarantee jail time, and there is still a chance he could play this year.

The situation remains full of unanswered questions, but as Mascona points out, it has the potential to deal a major blow to the Tigers in 2025.
