ATP star Jannik Sinner recently mentioned the point that resulted in his resurgence following the disappointing loss against Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros. According to the Italian player, his performance graph experienced a hit at the Halle Open. Still, the miraculous win over Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon acted as a sign, helping him emerge victorious at The Championships.
Jannik Sinner Unveils the Positive Impact of His Unexpected Victory Over Grigor Dimitrov
Dimitrov surprised everyone by winning the first two sets against the world No. 1 Sinner, putting him on the verge of a big upset at Wimbledon 2025. As they were tied 2–2 in the third set, Dimitrov hurt his chest while serving and wasn’t able to continue. He had to retire, helping Sinner advance to the quarterfinals.
Ahead of the Cincinnati Masters, the Italian player mentioned that it wasn’t just a win but a sign that tennis momentums keep changing, and it was his time to chase a resurgence.
“Match after match, we felt ready, and I’m better and better. I got lucky with Grigor (Dimitrov). But this, for me, I try to use it as a sign, you never know what’s happening, and that’s how it is in tennis, that you have to understand why and how some things happen. And then I really raised my level. I played one of the best tennis I could play and it was a very very emotional day for me,” he said, in an interview with TNT Sports.

After the victory over Dimitrov, Sinner gained notable confidence, as reflected in the showdowns against Ben Shelton, Novak Djokovic, and finally, in the championship match against Alcaraz. Having missed the National Bank Open to gather some rest, the Italian player is all set to resume his hard-court quest at the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati.

While fans eagerly waited for Sinner to make a comeback, he stepped forward to mention the reason behind his decision to skip the Masters 1000 event in Toronto. The four-time Grand Slam champion admitted that he sees this scheduling strategy as a redemption of his past mistakes.
“I’m very happy I took some time off, seeing my family and friends and very important people I have around. In the past, I made some mistakes sometimes, starting too early at times. I had conversations with the whole team, trying to understand what’s best. When you win big titles, they’re very special moments, and then you have to leave them,” he said.
Sinner’s opening showdown in Cincinnati is scheduled for Saturday, August 9. As the draw proceeds, his opening match rival is yet to be decided.
