Victoria Mboko’s accomplishment of reaching the final of the 2025 Canadian Open was celebrated by her fellow Canadians Eugenie Bouchard, Bianca Andreescu, and Carson Branstine. This is the first time the 18-year-old has made it to the final of a WTA Tour singles tournament.

Mboko received a wildcard entry into the main draw of the hard-court tournament in Montreal. She began her campaign by defeating Kimberly Birrell 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. In the second round, she triumphed over 23rd seed Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Mboko then overcame Marie Bouzkova 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 and top seed Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, the Canadian registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro and then secured her place in the final by defeating ninth seed Elena Rybakina with a scoreline of 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(4).

Soon after reaching the final of the Canadian Open, Mboko’s compatriots took to social media to celebrate her achievement. Andreescu, Branstine, and the recently retired Bouchard expressed their excitement for the 18-year-old’s accomplishment.
“Girlie!!!!!!! @vickymboko,” Bouchard captioned her Instagram story.
“Yes indeed 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 ⭐⭐⭐,” Andreescu wrote.
“YESS,” Branstine commented.

In addition to competing in the singles event, Mboko also played in the doubles competition in Montreal. She partnered with Kayla Cross, receiving a wildcard entry into the main draw. However, their run was short-lived, as they lost 3-6, 6-7(0) in the first round to the duo of Chan Hao-ching and Jiang Xinyu.
Who Will Mboko Face in the Final of the 2025 Canadian Open?
Following her victory over Rybakina in the semifinals of the 2025 Canadian Open, Mboko will face Naomi Osaka in the tournament’s final.
Osaka began her campaign at the WTA 1000 hard court tournament in Montreal by defeating qualifier Ariana Arseneault in the first round and then overcame 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the second round. The Japanese then registered wins over 22nd seed Jeļena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, Osaka triumphed over 10th seed Elina Svitolina. She secured her place in the final against Mboko by defeating 16th seed Clara Tauson in the semifinals.

Osaka and Mboko have never faced each other on the WTA Tour, and their matchup in the final in Montreal will be the first encounter between the two players.
After completing their campaigns at the 2025 Canadian Open, both Mboko and Osaka will next compete at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The tournament is scheduled from Aug. 7 to Aug. 18, 2025, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
