Diana Taurasi Issues Savage One-Liner on What Would Happen if WNBA Fans Threw a Sex Toy at Her

WNBA legend Diana Taurasi delivers a sharp response to the recent disturbing trend of fans throwing sex toys during games.

The WNBA has a new problem that’s as shocking as dangerous. Over the past 10 days, fans have repeatedly thrown sex toys onto the court during games, creating safety hazards and forcing players to speak out. When WNBA legend Diana Taurasi was asked how she’d handle someone tossing a dildo her way, her response was pure Taurasi: direct, fearless, and unforgettable.

What Did Diana Taurasi Say About the Sex Toy Incidents?

The most recent incident happened Tuesday night (August 5) at Crypto.com Arena during a game between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks. With just under two minutes left in the second quarter, a sex toy landed near the feet of Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, forcing officials to stop play briefly.

Sparks guard Kelsey Plum casually kicked the object off the floor, and the game resumed, but the moment wasn’t lost on players or fans. That’s when Taurasi weighed in with her trademark directness.

Speaking on the Front Office Sports Today podcast, the Phoenix Mercury legend didn’t hesitate when asked what her response would be if someone hurled a sex toy at her.

“I would have picked that thing up and thrown it right back at them,” Taurasi said.

It was bold, unapologetic Taurasi, making it clear she won’t tolerate nonsense, even if she can find a way to laugh at it. Meanwhile, Cunningham, who was closest to the thrown object, had already tried warning fans after an earlier incident just days prior.

“Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us,” Cunningham posted on X last Friday. Four days later, she was nearly struck by one herself.

After the game in Los Angeles, Cunningham added another post: “this did NOT age well,” highlighting the frustration and ongoing danger players continue to face.

How Did This Dangerous Trend Start in the WNBA?

Tuesday’s incident wasn’t an isolated event. In fact, it marked the third time in just 10 days that a dildo was thrown onto the court during a WNBA game, creating a pattern that has players and coaches deeply concerned.

The bizarre trend began on July 29, when a bright green sex toy flew onto the court during a matchup between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. That object bounced toward the sideline but didn’t hit anyone, setting off what would become a troubling series of copycat incidents.

Then on August 1, another dildo was tossed during the Valkyries’ game against the Chicago Sky. The same night as that second incident, someone reportedly tried to launch a green dildo onto the court during a New York Liberty game but failed to get it over the barrier.

So far, only one person has been caught and held accountable. A 23-year-old named Delbert Carver was arrested in Atlanta in connection with the July 29 incident. ESPN reports that he may face charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and public indecency.

Meanwhile, frustration over the ongoing situation has been growing among players and coaches across the league. Sparks coach Lynne Roberts didn’t hold back in her comments after Tuesday’s game, expressing the anger many feel about this dangerous behavior.

“I think it’s ridiculous. It’s dumb. It’s stupid,” she said postgame in Los Angeles. “It’s also dangerous and players’ safety is No. 1. Respecting the game. All those things. I think it’s really stupid. That’s all I’m going to say.”

As this trend gains more attention and media coverage, one thing has become clear: players have had enough. With voices like Taurasi, Cunningham, and Roberts all speaking up and demanding change, the pressure is now on fans and arena security to make sure this disgusting behavior never happens again.
