Daniil Medvedev vs Corentin Moutet Citi DC Open Preview — Head-to-Head and Prediction

Daniil Medvedev will take on Corentin Moutet in the quarterfinals of the Citi DC Open.

Eighth seed Daniil Medvedev will take on Corentin Moutet in the quarterfinals of the Citi DC Open on July 25. Whoever out of the two comes out on top, will take on either seventh seed Alex de Minaur or 14th seed Brandon Nakashima in the semifinals of the ATP 500 event.

Medvedev has not had the best of seasons so far in 2025, winning 25 out of 39 matches. The Russian entered Washington after an opening-round defeat at Wimbledon and received a bye to the second round due to his seeding. Here, he faced Reilly Opelka and came back from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Medvedev faced qualifier Wu Yibing in the third round and put on a dominant display to win 6-3, 6-2 and book his place in the quarterfinals.

Corentin Moutet has won 18 out of 32 main-draw matches so far on the 2025 ATP Tour, most notably reaching the final of the Mallorca Championships. The Frenchman entered the qualifiers of the Citi DC Open as the top seed and beat Karuê Sell 6-4, 6-2 before suffering a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 to Wu Yibing.

However, he entered the main draw of the ATP 500 event as a lucky loser after replacing third seed Holger Rune, who withdrew due to back pain. Moutet thus started his run in Washington in the second round and thrashed Alexandre Müller 6-0, 6-1 to set up a third-round clash with Dan Evans.

The Frenchman dominated the first set and won it 6-2 to take the lead in the match. Moutet and Evans played out a close second set, and the former won it via a tiebreak to register a 6-2, 7-6(4) win and reach his second quarterfinal of the 2025 season.

Daniil Medvedev vs Corentin Moutet Prediction

Medvedev has not been in the best of form so far in 2025 but considering the form of both players, the Russian will enter the match as the favorite to win. Medvedev’s first serve has been impressive so far in Washington, amassing 25 aces and winning 67 out of 75 points on it. The Russian plays his best tennis on hard-courts and the pace of the courts at the Citi DC Open will certainly suit him well.

Moutet’s first-serve numbers haven’t been particularly impressive during the main draw of the Citi DC Open, having served four aces and winning 38 out of 52 points. The Frenchman has also produced seven double faults and cannot afford too many of those against Medvedev. Moutet will have to bring on his A-game and he will look to disrupt the rhytm through his accurate drop shots.

However, judging by Medvedev’s hard-court prowess, there is a very good chance of him coming out on top and reaching the semifinals in Washington.

Prediction: Medvedev to win in straight sets.
