Jets HC Aaron Glenn Breaks Silence on Justin Fields’ Injury After QB Gets Carted Off in Training Camp

After heartbreaking news about Justin Fields being carted off the field, new New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn reveals exactly what happened.

At some point, you just start believing that a franchise is cursed. After the Aaron Rodgers experiment turned out to be a colossal failure, the New York Jets had the perfect game plan in mind to move on from that stench. Hiring a new excellent head coach in former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and finding an unproven, hungry quarterback in Justin Fields, their plan for the future, both in the short and long term, was set.

But, since they are the Jets, catastrophe struck before the new group could even take the field. Barely a month before a new NFL season gets underway, teams were involved in intense training camps. However, that’s when New York received the heartbreaking news of its new QB being carted off the field. With a grim situation developing, Glenn faced the media for the first time since the incident with an update on what went down on the field.

What Did Aaron Glenn Reveal About Justin Fields’ Injury?

As the Jets hope for a fresh restart, their plans revolved around the year Fields could potentially put forward for them. Signed to a two-year deal worth $40 million, he could be a valuable investment in the future if he could finally elevate from potential to finished product.

However, there is a chance that New York might have to wait a while before officially casting a verdict on the former first-round pick. After reports of the talented dual-threat quarterback going down in training camp made the rounds, Glenn brought forward some answers.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz was at training camp and brought back Glenn’s firsthand response about the situation, and for once, it was good news. On X, he wrote, “Jets HC Aaron Glenn says QB Justin Fields (toe) should be okay. Massive relief in Florham Park.”

Moments later, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that Fields suffered a dislocated (non-big) toe, but there was no fracture. Tests are ongoing.

Connor Hughes, from SNY, added that the new head coach in New York was clear in his support for the incoming backup QB, Tyrod Taylor. “We have an outstanding backup in Tyrod [Taylor],” Glenn explicitly mentioned.

Even with the positive update, the exact severity of the situation might not become clear until the official results are back from the MRI. But with preseason just a week away, it is going to put some pressure on the Jets offense as they try to get their reps under their legs without confirmation about their quarterback situation.

However, Hughes went on to reveal that Glenn was firmly advocating for Taylor in the wake of Fields’ injury. “Aaron Glenn says there’s no ‘drop off’ in play calling going from Fields – Taylor,” was the first line the SNY reporter mentioned, before adding, “Glenn talking about how players ‘gravitate towards’ Taylor.”

Finally, Glenn wrapped up his quotes with the ultimate praise for his potential new QB1. “If something happens to (Fields), they know they’ll be ready with Taylor.” That kind of confidence has to permeate throughout the building in the wake of a legitimately shocking injury.

But now, the Jets might need to turn to Taylor for the foreseeable future, unless they want to go a different direction in a quick move to replace their signal-caller immediately.

#Update: The Jets confirmed that Fields has a dislocated toe on his right foot. He’s currently listed as day-to-day.
