Sebastian Korda will not be defending his 500 ranking points at the 2025 Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C., as he has withdrawn from the tournament due to an injury. Last year, Korda secured the ATP 500 title by triumphing over Flavio Cobolli in the final.
The 2025 Citi DC Open is scheduled to take place from Jul. 19 to Jul. 27, 2025, at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center. Players like Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur, among others, are expected to compete at the ATP 500 tournament.
Why Can’t Sebastian Korda Defend His Title at the Citi DC Open?
Korda’s last appearance on the court was at the 2025 French Open, after which he was set to participate in the grass-court swing. However, he withdrew from both the 2025 BOSS Open in Stuttgart and the Queen’s Club Championships, ultimately deciding to withdraw from the Wimbledon Championships as well.
The former World No. 15 had announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon via social media, attributing it to a stress fracture in his shin sustained during the clay season.
“Unfortunately no Wimbledon for me this year. Stress fracture in my shin during the clay. Been a tough 12 months but better days ahead 🙏❤️💪,” Korda captioned his Instagram story.
Korda was next set to kick off his hard-court season by defending his title and the associated 500 points at the 2025 Citi DC Open. However, due to his injury, he has pulled out of the event and has been replaced by Christopher O’Connell.

In his last tournament, the 2025 French Open, Korda was seeded 23rd. He defeated Luciano Darderi (6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Jenson Brooksby (6-1, 6-2, 7-6(2)) in the first and second rounds, respectively, before being eliminated by 15th seed Frances Tiafoe (6-7(6), 3-6, 4-6) in the third round.
How Did Sebastian Korda Capture His Historic Title at the Citi DC Open?
In 2024, Korda was seeded fourth at the Citi DC Open in Washington. He started his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye, and he defeated Cristian Garín in his opening match, winning with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Korda advanced to the quarterfinals when his third-round opponent, Thanasi Kokkinakis, retired during the third set of their match, with the score standing at 6-7(1), 7-5, 3-2 retd. In the quarterfinals, the former World No. 15 faced seventh seed Jordan Thompson and triumphed over him in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-2.
The American then secured his place in the final by registering a 6-4, 6-4 win over fellow countryman and fifth seed Tiafoe. In the championship match, Korda defeated tenth seed Cobolli, clinching the title with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. This victory marked his second ATP Tour title and his first ATP 500 title overall.
With this win, Korda became the first American to capture the ATP 500 hard court title in Washington since Andy Roddick achieved the feat in 2007 by defeating John Isner in the final.
This victory also marked the first instance of a father-son duo winning the same ATP tournament. Korda’s father, Petr, had won the tournament in 1992 by defeating Henrik Holm in the final.
