How Long Will Caitlin Clark Be Out? Groin Injury Could Have Devastating Impact on Fever’s Season Outlook

Caitlin Clark's injury woes continue this season as the Indiana Fever star's groin injury could cause her to miss All-Star weekend and beyond.

It has been a rough season for Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. The second-year guard has fought through a multitude of injuries and have seen her numbers take a dive in 2025. Clark played in 40 games last season and won the Rookie of the Year Award, receiving 66 out of a possible 67 votes from a panel of sportswriters and sportscasters.

Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 41.7% from the field , 34.4% from three and 90.6% from the free throw line in 2024. This season, the former Iowa Hawkeye is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting just 36.7% from the field, 27.9% from beyond the arc and 82.0% from the charity stripe.

In an 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun Clark injured her groin after dishing out an assist to Kelsey Mitchell.

How Long Will Caitlin Clark’s Latest Injury Keep Her Sidelined?

Clark did not play in the Fever’s 98-77 loss to the New York Liberty on Wednesday night. She has now missed 11 games for the Fever this season. Entering this season, Clark had never missed a college or professional game in her career so this is all new territory for her.

Fortunately for Clark, there are plenty of players who know what she is experiencing right now. Former WNBA star and current analyst Lisa Leslie explained what Clark is going through.

“I really feel for Caitlin Clark because I had that injury in 2006,” Leslie said Wednesday night. “I was heavily taped around my thigh, my glute, just to make sure there was enough pressure to hold that groin.”

It’s going to be tough for Clark to completely rebound from her injury in season.

“You can go back out there and one move, one change of direction and, boom, you’re right back feeling that same type of pain,” Leslie explained. “It’s just a tough injury she’s going to have to manage.”

What Is Caitlin Clark’s All-Star Status?

The injuries have left Clark’s status up in the air and her participation in the All-Star Game. She was selected to play in the game and the three-point contest and has expressed excitement in the event.

“It’s exciting. I’ve never participated in a 3-point competition or practiced before, so just go out there and have fun,” Clark said on Tuesday. “I think the lineup of people competing is tremendous so more than anything, it’s going to be great for our league and for women’s basketball as a whole.”

Clark isn’t the only star impacted by injuries. Phoenix’s Satou Sabally will not be playing due to her ankle injury. Sabally became the second player to drop out of the game following Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard, who is out with a knee injury. Howard was replaced by Minnesota’s Kayla McBride.

According to Fever coach Stephanie White, Clark’s status for this weekend’s game is still unclear.

“No discussion yet about this weekend,” White said before Wednesday night’s game. “There was imaging done, and, you know, obviously ruling her out for tonight, but there hasn’t been any discussion beyond tonight.”

It will be disappointing if fans don’t get to see Clark during the All-Star weekend’s festivities, but getting healthy and getting back on the court for the Fever is her top priority.
