Over the past six years, Terry McLaurin’s career has been defined by one key trait: consistency. Even while playing in less talented teams and with quarterbacks who failed to impress until the arrival of Jayden Daniels, McLaurin always found a way to produce on the field.
That consistency finally translated into a competitive edge for the Washington Commanders last season, helping the franchise reach the conference championship. Still, his desire for a new contract isn’t heading toward a favorable resolution, and his frustration continues to grow.
Terry McLaurin Reveals Frustration Over Contract Dispute With Washington
For the first time in years, the Commanders were one of the most exciting teams to watch in 2024, and the biggest reasons for that were Daniels and McLaurin. They formed one of the most dynamic duos in the NFL last season, playing with the chemistry of long-time teammates despite it being the quarterback’s rookie year.
McLaurin posted the most balanced stats of his career, finishing with 1,096 receiving yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. Entering the 2025 offseason, the wide receiver sought a new deal, as this is his final year under contract with Washington.
However, negotiations have not gone in a direction that satisfies the player, and he has publicly expressed his frustration, opening the door for a potential holdout at the start of training camp if no agreement is reached.

In 2025, McLaurin carries a $25.5 million cap hit in the final year of his current deal. While he knows he would likely land a massive contract on the open market, he would prefer not to reach that point.
Washington is in a promising position. The offense ranked fifth in touchdowns (54), seventh in yards per game (369.9), and fourth in EPA per play (+0.10) in 2024. After years of struggles with the franchise, the window to chase a title is finally open, and McLaurin wants to be part of it.

The team’s perspective, though, is complicated by the position’s market reset. McLaurin may aim to surpass A.J. Brown’s $32 million per year, similar to how Garrett Wilson topped it with his new Jets deal by $500,000 annually.
Despite McLaurin’s production, the Commanders might be downplaying his value to land a number closer to what Tee Higgins received from the Bengals, $28.75 million per year. No matter how the negotiation unfolds, finding a resolution quickly would benefit both sides ahead of the 2025 season.
