Beyond breaking records at his position, the deal also makes him one of the highest-paid sixth-round picks in NFL history, trailing Tom Brady, of course.
The Chiefs franchise tagged Smith back in February, and he will still get paid the $23.4 million from that tag this year. Following that, he will make roughly the same amount of money annually for the remainder of his extension.

This massive contract locks in one of Mahomes’ best protectors for the next four years. With Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey both under lucrative long-term deals, the Chiefs are investing heavily in their offensive line, paying the pair roughly $41.5 million per season to anchor the interior and keep their franchise quarterback upright.

Smith was a sixth-round pick who signed a four-year deal with the Chiefs after he was drafted. Due to his performance, his salary bumped from $660,000 to $3.36 million by the end of that contract. In total, Smith made $6.5 million in his first four years in the league.
