The Oilers’ offseason has been far from quiet. After coming up short in the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year, the focus now shifts to fixing their biggest weakness: goaltending.
Oilers’ Goalie Search Could Lead to Familiar Face
Insider Jeff Marek recently floated a surprising possibility: the Oilers may be looking at Tristan Jarry.
“I don’t know how Bowman’s gonna do this; I’ve wondered…about someone like Tristan Jarry; it would certainly take some retention on the Pittsburgh side of things,” he shared with Inside Sports.

The veteran netminder, currently with Pittsburgh, is under contract through 2028 for $26.8 million. For Edmonton to pull this off, it would take some cap gymnastics, but the idea isn’t far-fetched.
Jarry, 30, has struggled with consistency, finishing last season with a .893 save percentage and 3.12 goals-against average over 36 games. Not stellar, but far from hopeless. He’s a two-time All-Star with postseason experience, and he has roots in Edmonton, having played junior hockey with the Oil Kings.
The Penguins recently added Arturs Silovs via trade and already have several young goalies in the pipeline. With Jarry’s role in flux, Pittsburgh may be open to retaining part of his salary to clear the logjam. That opens a door for Edmonton, a team desperate for a goaltending shakeup.
The Penguins have acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

During the playoffs, Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard failed to deliver when it mattered. Combined, their numbers were underwhelming. The need for a steady presence in net is obvious, and Jarry could be a realistic, if risky, solution.
Oilers Running Out of Options in Net
Other targets like John Gibson and Alex Nedeljkovic are already off the board. With few viable upgrades left, Edmonton might be pressed into making a move soon. If Jarry is available, and if the numbers can be worked out, it’s a gamble the Oilers might have to take.
There’s no guarantee Jarry can regain his best form. But behind a solid defense and with the right coaching, he might not need to be spectacular, just dependable. That’s all the Oilers really need.
The next few weeks will be telling. If the Oilers view Jarry as a potential answer, they’ll need to act fast. Training camp is approaching, and Edmonton can’t afford another season of uncertainty in goal.
