Injury Concerns Fade as Jannik Sinner Powers Through Wimbledon Draw

Sinner’s run to the championship match has been anything but straightforward. The Italian star suffered a scare during his fourth-round battle with 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov when he slipped awkwardly on the grass and clutched his right arm in discomfort.

Although he eventually advanced after Dimitrov retired with a pectoral injury, questions immediately began swirling about Sinner’s physical condition. The following day, he underwent an MRI, skipped his practice session, and arrived for his quarterfinal clash against Ben Shelton with a compression sleeve wrapped around his elbow.

Despite the uncertainty, the top seed powered through his next two rounds. He handed a 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4 defeat to 10th seed Shelton in the quarterfinals and beat seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals. The victory secured Sinner’s place in his first Wimbledon final, setting up a blockbuster rematch with Alcaraz. Notably, the Spaniard defeated him in a five-set thriller just last month in the French Open final.

When asked about the state of his injury in the post-match press conference, Sinner dismissed any lingering doubts. “No issue for Sunday,” Sinner said confidently. “As I said after playing Ben, there are no excuses. I think we are handling this small problem at the moment very well. I was much more concerned in Ben’s match in the quarters. Today I felt quite good already in the warm-up. This morning was good. No concerns.”

‘I Can’t Believe It’ — Sinner on Reaching His First Wimbledon Final

In a post-match on-court interview following his semifinal win, Sinner shared his thoughts on reaching his maiden final at SW19. ”I can’t believe it,” Sinner said. “It’s a tournament I always watched when I was young on television. I would never have imagined that I could play here in the final, so it’s amazing. I know how much work me and my team are putting in. My dad and my brother arrived today, so it’s even more special.”

When questioned about facing Alcaraz for the 13th time on the ATP Tour, Sinner responded: “We saw the last final. You never know. It’s a huge honor for me to share the court once again with Carlos. We try to push ourselves to the limit. He is for sure one of the players I look up to. I love watching him, and we all agree what kind of talent he is. Hopefully it’s going to be a good match like the last one.”
