At Wimbledon, Fernandez competed in both the singles and doubles events but faced early exits in each.

After Wimbledon Run, Leylah Fernandez Enjoys Time Away From Tennis in Spain

Seeded 29th in the singles draw, Fernandez began her run with a victory over wild card Hannah Klugman, winning 6-1, 6-3 in the first round. However, her campaign came to an end in the second round, where Laura Siegemund defeated her with a scoreline of 2-6, 3-6.

In the doubles event, the former World No. 17 teamed up with Lulu Sun, but they were unable to advance past the first round, succumbing to the sixth-seeded duo of Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs, who won with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-1.

After her Wimbledon exit, Fernandez traveled to Marbella, Málaga, Spain. She took to social media to share a couple of photos and a video of her jet skiing adventure. The Canadian expressed that she concluded her European tennis swing with a “splash.”

“Ending the European season with a splash 🌊 Next stop: back to the States for the hard court swing!!” Fernandez captioned her Instagram post.

Fernandez participated in three grass-court tournaments leading up to the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. She first competed at the Queen’s Club Championships, losing in the first round to qualifier and eventual champion Tatjana Maria.

Next, the 22-year-old participated in the Nottingham Open, where she defeated Suzan Lamens and Cristina Bucșa in the first two rounds, respectively, before losing to eventual runner-up Dayana Yastremska in the quarterfinals.

Fernandez’s final tournament before Wimbledon was the Bad Homburg Open. In the first round, she defeated Tatjana Maria before being eliminated by Jasmine Paolini in the second round.

Leylah Fernandez to Next Compete at Washington Open 2025

Fernandez is expected to commence her hard-court season at the 2025 Washington Open, which is scheduled to take place from Jul. 21 to Jul. 27, 2025. The matches at the tournament will be held at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., United States.

In addition to Fernandez, a competitive field of players will compete at the WTA 500 hard court tournament in Washington. Players like defending champion Paula Badosa, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, Elena Rybakina, and Emma Raducanu, among others, are expected to participate in the tournament.

Fernandez last participated in the Washington Open in 2023. She defeated Varvara Gracheva 6-4, 6-3, and Katie Boulter 6-4, 6-1 in the first and second qualifying rounds, respectively, to advance to the main draw.

There, the Canadian secured a victory against Bernarda Pera, winning 6-3, 7-5 in the first round. Her run at the WTA 500 tournament came to an end in the second round, where she faced fourth seed and eventual runner-up Maria Sakkari and lost 5-7, 2-6.
