Clara Tauson recently opened up about the bond with her boyfriend and coach Kasper Elsvad. The 22-year-old admitted to have attained a level where, despite the personal connection, they manage to keep working hard to attain better results.
The admission came ahead of her round of 16 showdown against Iga Świątek at Wimbledon.
Clara Tauson Commends the Supportive Role of Her Boyfriend and Coach
Denmark’s Clara Tauson knocked out former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the third round at Wimbledon. Playing on a windy Court 2, Tauson, who had never won a main-draw match at Wimbledon before this year, showcased commendable performance and took advantage of their rain-delayed clash to win 7-6(6), 6-3.
After the win, she addressed the supportive role of her boyfriend and coach Elsvad. She mentioned how the personal and professional connection combines to give her perfect mentorship, the results of which were visible at the ongoing grass court major.
“He’s obviously my boyfriend and my coach. It’s sometimes a hard thing to do but I think it’s been really easy for us cuz we we trust each other a lot both like skills wise and obviously in life. And I think just having someone in my corner that I know believes that I can win no matter the score and no matter how it looks,” she said in a press conference at Wimbledon.
Further addressing her practice schedule with Elsvad, she added:
“We’ve been working so hard every single day. We’re both really perfectionists and uh it’s hard to achieve in tennis, but we’re working towards it. And um yeah, we we do everything with as much care as we can and uh try to do our very best, both of us, every single day. And I think that’s really uh yeah risen my level a lot.”
Tauson is now preparing herself to face Swiatek in the round of 16 at Wimbledon. The victory in the upcoming showdown would propel her in the quarterfinals, marking a major milestone in her career so far.
Clara Tauson Unveils the Key Element That Helped Her Excel at Wimbledon
Besides mentioning the role of her team, Tauson also expressed confidence about her newly gained form on grass. Looking back to her past results on grass, the WTA star mentioned how her serve turned out to be one of the key reasons behind her breakthrough performance.
“I don’t know what to say. I played a really great match. Before the grass season started, I’d never won a match on grass so I’m super proud and happy with the way I played today. My serve is always a big weapon. But learning to manage the first shot … Elena plays so hard and I was there every single point and fighting for every single point. That was the key,” she said.
During her showdown against Rybakina, Tauson managed to secure 73% of the points on her first serve. While Swiatek has also shown notable rise in this year’s grass swing (reaching her first ever grass court final at Bad Homburg), it still remains to be seen if she can surpass the challenge.
