Clara Tauson recently shared her thoughts on facing Iga Świątek in the fourth round of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
Tauson and Świątek have met only once on the WTA Tour during the third round of the 2022 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. The former World No. 1 triumphed with a scoreline of 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1. Following that victory, Świątek went on to defeat Maria Sakkari in the final to secure the title.
Clara Tauson Opens Up About Facing Iga Świątek at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships Fourth Round?
Tauson is seeded 23rd at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, and she began her campaign with a victory over wild card Heather Watson in the first round, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Dane then overcame Anna Kalinskaya with a score of 6-3, 7-6(10). Tauson then triumphed over former Wimbledon champion and 11th seed Elena Rybakina 7-6(6), 6-3 in the second and third rounds, respectively, to secure her place in the fourth round, where she will face Świątek.
During the post-match press conference following her victory over Rybakina, Tauson was asked to share her thoughts on her upcoming match against Świątek. The World No. 22 praised the Pole as an “amazing” tennis player and a “big champion.”
“Yeah, I mean, obviously, Iga is a big, big champion, and she’s playing pretty good right now, looking at the score. So yeah, she’s an amazing tennis player. Nothing to say there at all, and I know that she’s maybe not the most comfortable on grass, but neither was I a week ago,” Tauson said.
The Dane said she would fight for every point during her match against Świątek. Tauson said she intends to replicate the high level of play she demonstrated against Rybakina, which she described as her “best tennis,” to claim the win.
“So, I think if I play the same tennis as I did today, it’s going to be a tight match, but obviously, I played some of my very best tennis. So, I’m going to expect that it’s not going to be the same in my next round, and I’m going to fight for every single point, game,” she continued.
Tauson also mentioned that Świątek’s “intensity” on the court differs from any other player on the tour. She also said that the former World No. 1 is always mentally prepared for her matches, which she implied contributes to Świątek’s success.
“I think her intensity is different from every single player. Her footwork is out of this league, and I think that’s what really is a big factor for her that she’s so intense and so mentally prepared all the time,” Tauson added.
How Has Iga Świątek Fared So Far at Wimbledon?
Świątek’s best performance at the Wimbledon Championships came in 2023 when she reached the quarterfinals. Last year, she defeated Sofia Kenin and Petra Martić before being eliminated by Yulia Putintseva in the third round.
This year, Świątek is seeded eighth at the London Major. She kicked off her campaign with a victory over Polina Kudermetova in the first round, winning 7-5, 6-1. The World No. 1 then faced Caty McNally, securing a comeback win with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. In the third round, she eliminated Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the fourth round, where she will compete against Tauson.
The winner of the fourth-round match between Świątek and Tauson will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face either the 19th seed, Liudmila Samsonova, or Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro.
