After plenty of speculation and drama, Aaron Rodgers is reportedly signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Barring any cataclysmic changes, Rodgers plans to sign with and attend the Steelers’ mandatory minicamp next week.
Now, looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Steelers aim to continue their streak of non-losing seasons under head coach Mike Tomlin, while also attempting to break their nearly decade-long playoff-win drought. Along the way, though, there are a ton of matchups that offer intrigue.

5. Indianapolis Colts, Week 9
While a Week 9 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts might not sound like a big deal, it has to mean a lot for Rodgers personally. For one of the most legendary quarterbacks ever, the Colts have been a challenge for the four-time MVP.
During his illustrious career, he’s squared off against them five times but walked out victorious on a single, solitary occasion. That victory occurred in his first outing against Indianapolis, back in October 2008.
At the time, Rodgers was far from his finished self, ending the game with just 186 yards and a touchdown. With a new system and head coach leading from the sideline, Rodgers would like to flip the script nearly twenty years later.
4. Chicago Bears, Week 12
While not a divisional rival anymore, there will always be bad blood between Rodgers and the Chicago Bears. Since his days with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers has made it a point to embroil himself in the legendary rivalry.
Facing off against Chicago 30 times as a Packer, he finished with a 25-5 record, the most wins against the Bears all-time for any quarterback. He completed his tenure with eight consecutive wins, including a game-winning touchdown in 2021 that led to him shouting, “I still own you.”
Even with a different jersey on his back, Rodgers will have a point to prove against the Bears, and he’ll get a chance to improve his eight-game win streak in Week 12.
Recently, Rodgers indicated that he was looking forward to this game during a public Q&A.
3. Minnesota Vikings, Week 4
The Brett Favre dream that wasn’t meant to be. After his tenure with the New York Jets came to a disastrous end, the Minnesota Vikings were on the short list of teams seen as a viable contender to sign the veteran QB.
Instead, head coach Kevin O’Connell opted to move forward with redshirted rookie J.J. McCarthy. In Week 4, across the pond in Ireland, Rodgers will have his chance to enact his revenge. A divisional rival for years on end, the former Super Bowl champion is quite familiar with Minnesota.
Over his legendary career, the two squads have faced off 30 times, with Rodgers having the advantage at 17-12-1.
2. New York Jets, Week 1
The top two aren’t incredibly hard to predict. But the schedule makers knew what they were doing when they put the Steelers up against the New York Jets in the first week of the 2025 season. A seemingly innocuous game is now going to carry a ton of weight.
It might be impossible to summarize an incredibly complex and drama-filled two years, but the Rodgers era in New York did not go smoothly. There was controversy before, during, and after he left the organization.
After promising the city a Super Bowl, Rodgers missed the first year entirely before winning just five games in his second season. Then, a disastrous exit, made public on the Pat McAfee Show, officially ended their run together.
However, in the first week of the season, Rodgers will have a chance to prove the entire organization wrong, while new head coach Aaron Glenn would like to prove his point and kick off a new era of Jets football.
1. Green Bay Packers, Week 8
The only way this matchup could be any better is if it was taking place in Titletown. But since leaving the Packers two seasons ago, Rodgers has yet to face off against the team he quarterbacked for nearly two decades.
This season, in Week 8, he will finally have an opportunity as Matt LeFleur and Co. arrive in Pittsburgh for a showdown. After four MVPs and a Super Bowl, it will be the first time in his career that the superstar faces off against Green Bay.

Nick Wright, host of First Things First on FS1, called it the most anticipated matchup of the year.
“Aaron Rodgers for the first time and only time in his career playing the Green Bay Packers,” Wright said. “That might be the last real stakes game Aaron Rodgers plays in his career, if we don’t think the Steelers are going to be really good.”
Right in the middle of the year, the football world might be treated to one of the most emotionally high-stake games in quite some time.
