49ers Legend Terrell Owens Shouts Out Niners’ ‘Belt to A**’ Performance vs. Bears in Week 17

49ers legend Terrell Owens praised San Francisco’s Week 17 win over the Bears, calling it a “belt to a**” performance that showed dominance

On Sunday night, the San Francisco 49ers not only survived but made a statement. In Week 17, the Chicago Bears lost 42-38 after a fiercely contested game that went down to the wire. When the dust settled at Levi’s Stadium, the Niners’ takeaway was much calmer.

Terrell Owens Breaks Down the Niners’ Statement Win in Unfiltered IG Live Moment

On Wednesday afternoon, Owens was on Instagram Live with Kareem J. Grimes, better known for his role on The CW’s All-American as Cordell “Preach” Simms. Spoke briefly about the game and how the Niners put the belt to a** on Sunday football.

Terrell Owens: “Belt to damn a** baby.”

Kareem Grimes: “Listen, the way, the way. Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy was playing is serious business.”

Terrell Owens: “Video Game numbers. Video game numbers.”

Kareem Grimes: “No, for real, for real. Real talk, real talk.”

Terrell Owens: “Man, speaking of extension man, that’s what the Niners did. They pulled that extension cord out, damn the belt. They pulled the extension cord out Mojo and put it on that a**. BTA, belt to a**.”

When both teams score a total of eighty points, it often means the defenses struggled. That was partly true here. But for San Francisco, this game was more about showing dominance when it mattered most.

Every time the Bears closed the gap, the 49ers answered right back with big runs, bold passes, and total confidence. Even before the last play decided the outcome, San Francisco had already set the tone. This team thrives in wild games and always believes it can finish strong. That confidence is what Owens was reacting to. Not the margin, but the posture.

Christian McCaffrey Keeps Redefining Complete

Christian McCaffrey’s season has reached a historic level. He set a new franchise record with 96 receptions by a running back in a single season, while rushing for 140 yards and adding 41 more through the air against Chicago.

More importantly, he controlled the pace. McCaffrey was instrumental in grounding the game.  He’s not only getting results with 2,069 yards from scrimmage on the season, but he’s also determining how defenses approach their game plan. That’s the kind of presence that turns a close game into a psychological beatdown.

Brock Purdy was not just a game manager; he confidently led the offense and controlled every moment of the game. He threw for over 300 yards, ran for 28, and scored three touchdowns. Although his late completion of 38 yards to Jauan Jennings was understated, it showed his confidence and determination to win. Owens referred to those numbers as ‘video game numbers, ‘ which was an accurate description.

Purdy was assertive but never forced plays, staying composed and standing out. As Kareem Grimes said, this was focus, not hype.

Why Terrell Owens’ Reaction Matters

Owens doesn’t give compliments lightly, especially when it comes to offensive dominance. His experience, which included his legendary 20-catch, 283-yard performance against the Bears in 2000, has given him an understanding of what it looks like.

The reason for his “belt to a**” comment being different is because of that. It wasn’t just praise. It was recognition. A gesture from one era of 49ers football to another, expressing familiarity. The offense exerted its will even when the score was tight. Modern execution and old-school physicality.

The Niners play host to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night, with the number one seed in the NFC and the NFC West Division on the line. Seattle is looking to avenge its 17-13 home loss to San Francisco in Week 1 of the season and secure its tenth NFC West title.

Meanwhile, the 49ers are aiming to secure home-field advantage throughout the postseason, with Levi’s Stadium hosting Super Bowl LVI. The game between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers is scheduled to start at 8 pm EST on ESPN/ABC on January 3rd.
