49ers Predicted To Trade Brock Purdy to NFC Bottom-Feeder in 2025 NFL Draft Move Involving Shedeur Sanders

The New York Giants signed Russell Wilson to a hefty one-year contract, but this doesn’t mean competition won’t be added for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

The Giants have the No. 3 pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, and it seems more likely than not they will pass on a QB. Whether it’s adding two-way generational talent Travis Hunter or superstar EDGE Abdul Carter, it seems New York is satisfied with passing on a rookie signal caller in Round 1.

Instead, the front office could trade for a Pro Bowler who has been stuck in contract negotiations with his current organization for months.

Giants Predicted To Trade for Brock Purdy

The San Francisco 49ers’ hidden gem turned Super Bowl-appearing QB, Brock Purdy, is yet to sign an extension with the team. While negotiations are seemingly trending in the right direction and he even showed up for voluntary workouts, a trade is not off the table.

PFSN’s Kyle Soppe predicts the Niners will trade Purdy to the Giants in exchange for picks Nos. 3 and 100, using the earlier to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“GM John Lynch professed at the NFL Combine that Purdy’s extension is a priority for the 49ers. The team’s actions this offseason would support that claim, with San Francisco relinquishing nine players making at least $5 million per year in free agency or trades,” Soppe wrote.

“But what if negotiations don’t go smoothly, and Lynch and Kyle Shanahan decide that paying Purdy $50-55 million per year would compromise the superb supporting cast he’s played with over the years? A large part of Purdy’s value stemmed from his cheap cost,” Soppe concluded.

The reality is the 49ers’ front office is yet to see Purdy in anything less than a perfect situation. Having a strong offensive line, superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receivers Deebo Samuel Sr. and Brandon Aiyuk, and tight end George Kittle is a recipe for success. It’s quite the risk to pay him a lucrative contract without knowing how much of their success stems from him rather than the system.

It’s worth noting that the 2022 Mr. Irrelevant has already greatly exceeded expectations by maintaining, let alone thriving, in a starting role.

Soppe continued, “If the 49ers want to preserve the same salary structure they’ve enjoyed since 2023 (when they moved on from Jimmy Garoppolo), what if they used Purdy as a trade chip to find their next quarterback? The Cleveland Browns and New York Giants don’t seem poised to take the leap on Shedeur Sanders in the top three anymore, but both teams still need long-term solutions at quarterback.

“The Browns don’t really have the salary cap health to take on another massive quarterback contract, but the Giants do with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on cheap short-term deals. In this scenario, the 49ers would trade Purdy to the Giants for the No. 3 overall pick, likely also sending back a Day 2 pick (let’s say their third-rounder at No. 100 overall) since New York would be paying out a big extension on top of a premium pick.”

As previously mentioned, 49ers head coach Shanahan is known for setting his QBs up for success with an easy-to-thrive scheme. The heavy reliance on RPO, creativity, and short-to-intermediate passes could lead to Sanders prospering in San Francisco. He is far from the most polished QB, but his premier accuracy would mesh greatly in their system.

The last time San Francisco selected a QB at No. 3, it ended incredibly poorly with Trey Lance. However, if the Niners’ confidence in paying Purdy a huge deal dwindles, the Giants could show a level of interest in acquiring the 25-year-old.

    1. This guy doesn’t know any more than the guy mowing my lawn. The 49ers are determined to sign Purdy and build a winning team around him. He just has to come up with a reason for people to read his irrelevant blather.
