San Francisco 49ers News Today

The 49ers have made a pair of moves that will primarily affect their special teams. Wide receiver Chris Conley has been re-signed on a one-year deal, per a team announcement. In addition, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network notes cornerback Chase Lucas has been signed, also on a one-year accord.

The team has also made several signings to bolster its defense.

49ers Re-Sign Wide Receiver Chris Conley

The 49ers have re-signed receiver Chris Conley to a one-year deal, the team announced Saturday.

Conley played eight regular-season games and all three postseason games for the 49ers last season. Conley saw action on 110 offensive snaps and 73 on special teams in the regular season.

He made three catches for 69 yards in the regular season and two for 35 in the playoffs.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Conley in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Niners Also Add CB Chase Lucas, Formerly of the Lions

Lucas, 27 years old, primarily played on Detroit’s special teams in 2023 while seeing action in 12 games last season, none of which came on the defensive side of the ball.

The former seventh-round draft pickup should be expected to serve on special teams as a role player while also adding some back-end depth to the cornerback room heading into offseason programs.

49ers Add Another Player to the Defensive Side of the Ball

The 49ers added yet another player to the defensive side of the ball on Friday with the signing of cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who agreed to terms with the 49ers on a one-year deal.

Yiadom, 28, is the seventh defensive player added by the 49ers this week, joining defensive linemen Leonard Floyd, Yetur Gross-Matos, Jordan Elliott, and Maliek Collins; linebacker De’Vondre Campbell; and defensive back Lucas.

Yiadom has been a bit of a journeyman since joining the NFL, but the 2023 season was his best one yet. Yiadom played in 17 games with the New Orleans Saints last season and wound up starting eight times as he helped fill in for the injured Marshon Lattimore. He finished with 37 tackles, 14 passes defended, and one interception. Yiadom also held quarterbacks to a completion percentage of 48.9% when targeting him.
