The 2025 NFL Draft has concluded after three days and 257 picks.
Now, as teams wrap up their rookie classes by signing undrafted free agents, pundits and fans have begun grading each team’s respective draft haul.
PFSN is following suit with grades for all 32 teams and their performance in this year’s draft.
The teams atop the pack with A grades, like the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, should come as no surprise. They routinely crush draft week and are revered as some of the most consistently smart franchises during the annual event.
However, the lowest-graded team will come as a bit of a shock to some, given their recent Super Bowl pedigree.
San Francisco 49ers Receive League-Worst D+ Grade For 2025 NFL Draft Class
Considering the San Francisco 49ers were the NFC representative in two of the past six Super Bowls, it’s no wonder that they’ve earned a reputation as one of the league’s most well-run franchises, helmed by the brain trust of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.
Case in point: franchise quarterback Brock Purdy was drafted as “Mr. Irrelevant” (i.e., the final pick in the draft) in 2022. A year later, he led the team to the Big Game and finished fourth in MVP voting.
Thus, it might come as a shock to learn that in PFSN’s grades for every team’s draft class, the 49ers ended up with the lowest grade in the league with a D+. You might even be more surprised to learn that such a grade is more or less in line with industry consensus.
“The 49ers haven’t re-signed Brock Purdy yet, but their actions during the draft suggest that they are very comfortable with him controlling their future. San Francisco didn’t address the offensive side of the ball until the late stages of Round 4 (WR Jordan Watkins out of Ole Miss), a bit of a surprise given the injury history Christian McCaffrey and seeing Jordan Mason/Deebo Samuel move on this offseason,” the PFSN Stats & Insight team wrote.
“This is still a very talented roster and if Purdy is truly a top-10 quarterback, some of these roster flaws can be overlooked. That said, this team is walking a fine line due to how they addressed this draft and that brings about plenty of short-term risk.”
PFSN’s grading team only gave San Francisco two As in their 11-player draft class, those being for fourth-round pick C.J. West (A) and seventh-round pick Connor Colby (A-). The selection of Watkins in the fourth round was especially panned, receiving a grade of D.
The much-discussed first-round selection of edge rusher Mykel Williams earned a solid B, though the Stats & Insight team did note that Georgia product is a developmental project and a confusing selection for a team in need of polished, win-now talent.
Ultimately, the 49ers reinforced their depth at a number of key positions with their draft class, though it’s hard not to feel like the team went for a quantity-over-quality approach with their draft strategy.
