San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White’s early-morning shooting in San Francisco initially surfaced as a non-life-threatening incident with few specifics. Now, a police report reviewed by The San Francisco Standard has added a significant new layer: The gunfire followed a dispute involving White and Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Baby inside a Mission District nightclub.
As investigators work to identify a suspect and determine what exactly unfolded in the minutes before shots were fired, the 49ers are monitoring the situation while their young defender recovers from ankle surgery at a local hospital.
49ers Star Keion White, Rapper Lil Baby Got Into an Argument Before Shooting: Police Report
According to details reported by The San Francisco Standard from a San Francisco Police Department report, White was attending a private party in the downstairs area of Dahlia’s, a nightclub on Mission Street, in the early hours of Monday morning.
Upstairs, a separate party, including rapper Lil Baby (Legal name: Dominique Jones) and members of his entourage, was underway on the main floor. Social media posts from the night showed Lil Baby at the venue after a scheduled performance in San Francisco.
The police report states that members of Jones’ entourage attempted to enter White’s private event, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two sides. A witness told officers he went upstairs to get the club management to help defuse the situation. While he was away from the downstairs room, he heard gunshots.
When he returned, White had been struck in the left leg, with the injury later described as a gunshot wound to the ankle. The witness said he did not see who fired the weapon, and as of the latest update, no suspect had been publicly identified.
Officers arriving at the club described a chaotic scene on the main floor. “As I entered, I saw numerous scantily clad females picking up dollar bills that were strewn all over the floor,” the police report says. “Some of the females were topless and appeared to have been adult entertainers.”
Investigators recovered a 9mm shell casing and a .45-caliber casing at the scene, indicating that at least two different firearms may have been discharged. The report also notes that when officers asked White who shot him, he was uncooperative.
The Standard reported that police are pursuing multiple leads while reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence tied to the nightclub.
Latest Update On White’s Ankle Surgery
The shooting occurred just hours after Super Bowl 60, adding an off-field crisis to the 49ers’ postseason aftermath. Team officials confirmed that White was taken to a local hospital for treatment following the incident.
In a statement released after he underwent surgery, the organization emphasized that the injury, while serious, was not believed to be life-threatening and that the procedure had gone ahead as planned.

“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the team statement read. “He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”
Subsequent reporting from The San Francisco Standard and other outlets has indicated that the surgery was considered successful, though the 49ers have not provided a public timetable for White’s return to football activities.
The police report confirms that the wound was to his left leg and that he was transported from the scene for medical care shortly after officers arrived at the club. For now, his recovery timeline remains uncertain, with the team expected to reassess his status as he progresses through post-surgical rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
While White’s health is the immediate priority for the franchise, the legal and disciplinary implications of the incident remain unresolved. The Standard noted that investigators have pulled surveillance footage and recovered an abandoned cellphone from the club as part of their ongoing work.
With White listed in the report as uncooperative when asked about the shooter and no arrests announced, questions linger about how quickly the case can be fully pieced together. The 49ers have not commented beyond their initial injury statement, and there has been no public response from Lil Baby’s camp regarding the reported argument.
As the investigation continues, both the team and the league will be watching closely for any developments that could affect White’s future on the field and the broader fallout from a violent episode that began as a late-night celebration.
