24-TD WR Breaks Silence on Free Agency as He Weighs Options After Short Stint With AFC Franchise

A veteran free agent wideout with 24 career touchdowns reveals what matters most in choosing his next team.

As training camp begins, several veteran free agents are still searching for a new team. A player remaining unsigned at this stage does not necessarily mean there is no interest, as it often comes down to timing and fit. One veteran wide receiver, preparing for his eighth NFL season, is weighing his options and has identified the key factors he is considering before signing with a team.

Veteran Wide Receiver Outlines Priorities as He Navigates Free Agency

Many NFL teams could use help at wide receiver heading into the 2025-2026 season. Adding a proven veteran would boost on-field production and bring leadership and mentorship to younger players in the position group.

Among the remaining free agent wide receivers is DJ Chark, who played for the Los Angeles Chargers last season on a one-year $3 million deal. Chark has been in the NFL for seven seasons and is looking to find a home for his eighth.

The veteran wide receiver has totaled 216 receptions for 3,100 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career, making him a strong fit for teams in need of help at the position. However, as both a father and a husband, Chark explained that choosing his next team involves more than just accepting the first offer that comes his way.

In an interview with Sports Casting’s Kyle Odegard, Chark discussed the key factors he is considering when deciding on his next NFL destination.

“It will have to be something that makes sense, from a family perspective and also from an X’s and O’s perspective,” Chark said. “Getting up and going to any team just for the excitement. I’ll always love the game, but at this point, putting myself and my family in a great position is what’s ideal for me.”

Chark’s perspective offers a rare glimpse into the mindset of a free agent, and it is entirely reasonable that, at this stage of his career, he is prioritizing more than just the terms of a contract.

In the 2024-2025 season, Chark was sidelined by a hip injury that caused him to miss ten games. In the seven games he did play, he recorded just four receptions for 31 yards.

While that level of production is modest, Chark was once among the league’s top contested catch receivers, recording over 1,000 yards in his second NFL season. He still has the talent and physical tools to make an impact in any NFL receiving room.

The former second-round pick will likely sign with a team before the season begins, but it is clear he is seeking a situation that offers both a strong football fit and a stable environment for his family.
