Pro Bowl joins Super Bowl week spotlight in 2026. Here’s how to watch it, key rosters, format changes, and why the NFL is reshaping the event.

Super Bowl week has evolved beyond just the big game on Sunday. The NFL is stepping up its game by integrating the Pro Bowl right into the heart of championship week in San Francisco.

The shift reflects where the league is headed. Global growth. Player safety. Olympic flag football visibility. And a redesigned product built for modern fans.

Pro Bowl Moves Into Super Bowl Week Spotlight

For the first time, the Pro Bowl is officially part of Super Bowl week programming. The 2026 Pro Bowl Games take place Tuesday at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, just days before Super Bowl action at Levi’s Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. Fans can watch on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, Disney XD, and ESPN Unlimited. Streaming options include the ESPN app and Fubo.

This schedule change is significant. Historically, the Pro Bowl existed outside the main championship spotlight. Now it sits directly inside the NFL’s biggest week. That move could signal long-term plans to elevate the event’s relevance and global reach.

The broadcast team includes Scott Van Pelt handling play-by-play. Jason Kelce and Dan Orlovsky provide analysis. Laura Rutledge and Michelle Beisner-Buck report from the sidelines. Coverage begins with Postseason NFL Countdown at 6:30 p.m. ET.

New Format Emphasizes Skills and Flag Football

Since 2023, the NFL has shifted away from full-contact Pro Bowl games. The modern version focuses on skills competitions and a 7-on-7 flag football matchup between the AFC and NFC.

The game is played on a 50-yard field with 10-yard end zones. Touchdowns are worth six points. Extra points come from the 5-yard line. Two-point attempts come from the 10.

Skills challenges help set the opening score for the flag football game. The format prioritizes pace, scoring, and entertainment value. It also aligns with flag football’s debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. NFL owners have already approved player participation in the Olympics, showing a long-term investment.

Rosters Feature Star Power Despite Opt-Outs

The rosters are built through fan, player, and coach voting. Like every year, injuries and Super Bowl commitments create replacements.

At quarterback, the AFC features Joe Burrow, Joe Flacco, and rookie Shedeur Sanders. Flacco stands out as a first-time Pro Bowler at age 41. The NFC counters with Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, and Jalen Hurts.

Skill positions remain stacked. The NFC features Christian McCaffrey, Puka Nacua, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens. The AFC includes Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, James Cook, Jonathan Taylor, and De’Von Achane.

On defense, the AFC highlights Houston’s core, led by Will Anderson Jr. and Derek Stingley Jr. The NFC counters with star players from Philadelphia, Detroit, and Los Angeles.

Sideline leadership adds legacy appeal. Hall of Famers Jerry Rice (NFC) and Steve Young (AFC) replace Peyton and Eli Manning. Young’s staff includes Michael Vick and Pat Surtain. Rice’s staff features DeSean Jackson and Tyrone Poole.

What the New Pro Bowl Could Mean Going Forward

The Pro Bowl’s identity is still evolving. But the direction is clear. The NFL wants this event to be more than nostalgia.

If fan engagement grows, the league could continue expanding its role inside Super Bowl week. If Olympic flag football gains traction, the Pro Bowl might become its showcase pipeline.

For now, it remains the final time many stars share the field before the offseason. But this new version could be laying the foundation for the NFL’s next global era.
