The 2025 NFL season is right around the corner. After a shocking end to the 2024 season where the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs en route to victory, the offseason was as wild as they come. Whether it was draft day shockers, coaching changes, or blockbuster trades, it’s been a nonstop cycle.

Every team has a clear idea of its standing and ambitions for the upcoming year. With opening night just days away, let’s break down what’s in store for the fans in Week 1 of the 2025 season.

Start of the 2025 NFL Regular Season

As is tradition in the league, the reigning Super Bowl champions, in this case the Philadelphia Eagles, will kick off a new season on the Thursday following Labor Day. This year, that accounts for September 4, 2025.

Taking on the Dallas Cowboys, the game will be a renewal of one of the greatest divisional rivalries in the sport. It is scheduled to begin at 8:20 p.m. ET, with folks able to catch the action on NBC.

Fresh off trading Micah Parsons, the Cowboys are walking into Lincoln Financial Field as the clear underdogs, while Philly tries to double down on its success from last season with a strong showing to open the year.

What Is the NFL Week 1 Schedule?

The NFL’s continued foray into international waters will begin right from the season’s first week. After Thursday Night Football, the league prepares for an unconventional Friday Night game on September 5, 2025.

The Kansas City Chiefs, last year’s runner-ups, take on a divisional rival, the Los Angeles Chargers. However, a neutral sight game is scheduled to take place in the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil.

The coverage is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET and while be available for free to folks worldwide on YouTube. From there, it’s back to the regular NFL schedule. Here’s the lineup for the final two days of the first week of football, beginning on September 7, 2025.

The slate for Week 1 concludes with another Divisional game on Monday Night, September 8, 2025, when the Chicago Bears, with a new head coach in Ben Johnson, take on the Minnesota Vikings with a new quarterback in J.J. McCarthy.

The game will begin at 8:15 p.m. ET from Soldier Field in Chicago, with ABC and ESPN providing simultaneous coverage.
