What should you expect from the 2022 RB/OL drills?

While Day 1 of the televised NFL Combine schedule showcased some high-ranked talent, the light isn’t quite as bright on Day 2. According to Pro Football Network’s Chief Draft Analyst Tony Pauline, only one prospect ranked in the top 10 of his Big Board will grace the field today. However, Alabama tackle Evan Neal, Pauline’s third-ranked prospect, announced he would not be testing in the 2022 NFL Combine.

This leaves Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum (16) and Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning (17) as the only other top-20 prospects from Pauline’s Big Board to test at the combine today. The first running back in Pauline’s rankings doesn’t show up until 29 with Iowa State’s Breece Hall. He sees a comfy cushion between Texas A&M RB Isaiah Spiller (46) and Cincinnati RB Jerome Ford (48).

Fans can expect to see the RBs and offensive linemen complete the five standard Combine drills: bench press, broad jump, 40-yard dash, shuttle run, and vertical jump. Additionally, each positional group has its own set of on-field drills that NFL prospects will run through. RBs will complete the Duce Staley and inside-route exercises again after the NFL Combine introduced them in 2020. Likewise, offensive linemen will complete Mirror and Screen drills at the Combine which were also added to the schedule in 2020.
