2022 7-Round SEC NFL Mock Draft: Round 2
Day 2 kicks off with another Georgia defensive player coming off the board early, but this time, to the Detroit Lions with the second pick of the round.
33) Jacksonville Jaguars: Lewis Cine, S, Georgia
By adding Lewis Cine, the Jaguars bring in some much-needed competition for Andrew Wingard (72.4% completions against, 118.2 passer rating allowed) and Rayshawn Jenkins (13.7 yards per completion allowed).
45) Baltimore Ravens: Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia
Only five teams are spending less on interior defensive linemen than the Ravens in 2021 ($11.7 million). Devonte Wyatt — 7 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles as a senior — could quickly headline a very young position group.
55) Arizona Cardinals: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
The Cardinals’ cornerback room is Byron Murphy and a lot of questions. Roger McCreary could provide some answers to them, and this stage of the draft is a chance worth taking, even if he totaled just 6 interceptions in 39 games.
56) Dallas Cowboys: DeMarvin Leal, DT, Texas A&M
The Cowboys’ defensive front took a step backward during free agency. They unexpectedly lost Randy Gregory and haven’t really replaced him. DeMarvin Leal — a Ted Hendricks Award finalist — would provide some help.
57) Buffalo Bills: George Pickens, WR, Georgia
The Bills cut Cole Beasley, and Emmanuel Sanders walked in free agency. So far, they’ve replaced them with just Jamison Crowder. George Pickens has big-play potential, and with Josh Allen throwing the ball, he could realize it.
58) Atlanta Falcons: John Metchie III, WR, Alabama
The Falcons desperately need wide receiver help and have absolutely no expectations to win in 2022. In other words, a perfect way for John Metchie III to ease his way back into football shape after tearing his ACL in 2021.
59) Green Bay Packers: Quay Walker, LB, Georgia
The Packers were able to retain De’Vondre Campbell, but their linebacker depth took a significant hit in free agency. Quay Walker should have a real chance to play with Za’Darius Smith and Oren Burks gone.
60) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jamaree Salyer, G, Georgia
Ali Marpet retired in the offseason, and unlike Tom Brady, he actually stayed that way. The Buccaneers also lost Alex Cappa, so the depth at guard is shaky. Jamaree Salyer, who has roster flexibility but no clear NFL position, is a risk worth taking.
64) Denver Broncos: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia
Landing a potential first-round pick with the final selection of Round 2 is a win, no matter the position. But Nakobe Dean is particularly valuable to the Broncos, who haven’t yet re-signed A.J. Johnson or Kenny Young.
2022 7-Round SEC NFL Mock Draft: Round 3
Defensive prospects from the SEC dominated the third round, with numerous players from the powerhouse conference coming off the board early.
67) New York Giants: Martin Emerson, CB, Mississippi State
Totaled 152 tackles (3 for loss) and 15 passes defensed in 36 games at Mississippi State.
72) Seattle Seahawks: Christian Harris, LB, Alabama
A fleet-footed cover linebacker who will give Seattle meaningful snaps with Bobby Wagner gone.
81) New York Giants: Ed Ingram, G, LSU
With 22 collegiate starts at left guard and 12 at right, Ingram provides the position flexibility teams covet at this point of the draft.
82) Atlanta Falcons: Phidarian Mathis, DT, Alabama
An all-conference bulldozer in the middle should help a Falcons defense that allowed 131.9 rushing yards per game in 2021.
85) New England Patriots: Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB, Alabama
The Patriots have needs up and down the roster. Bill Belichick trusts Nick Saban as much as anyone and fills one of those needs on a recommendation.
91) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Matthew Butler, DT, Tennessee
Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Steve McLendon are gone from a defense that was tough to run against the last few years.
95) Cincinnati Bengals: Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee
Lightning-quick Volunteer DB ran a 4.36-second 40 at the NFL Scouting Combine.
97) Detroit Lions: Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M
Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift are a solid 1-2 punch, but Williams is in the final year of his contract.
99) Cleveland Browns: Zachary Carter, DL, Florida
A two-year starter in Gainesville, Carter had 28.5 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks in his career.
101) Philadelphia Eagles: Brian Robinson Jr., RB, Alabama
Robinson, the latest in a long line of Bama running backs to make the NFL, rushed for 1,343 and 14 TDs in 2021.
102) Miami Dolphins: Sam Williams, EDGE, Ole Miss
Former JUCO star proved he’s NFL ready with an All-American final year in Oxford.
103) Kansas City Chiefs: Wan’Dale Robinson, WR, Kentucky
Breakout junior season (104 catches, 1,334 yards, 7 TDs) convinced Robinson he was ready for the NFL.
