The Indiana Fever were dealt yet another injury jolt to their superstar Caitlin Clark. The sophomore-season guard suffered a groin injury during the team’s win against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.
An emotional Clark exited the game and was visibly spotted wincing after she grabbed the top of her right leg with 39 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The latest setback not only saw her miss the next game against the New York Liberty, but also now puts her out of All-Star Weekend (July 18-19).
WNBA legend Lisa Leslie offered her sympathies and sage advice to Clark soon after. The three-time MVP and Hall of Famer also noted that she went through the same injury during her playing days.
Lisa Leslie Sheds Light on Caitlin Clark’s Re-Aggravated Groin Injury
Speaking to CBS Sports, the two-time WNBA champion shared her two cents on Clark’s injury (via IndyStar).
“I really feel for Caitlin Clark because I had that injury in 2006,” Leslie said on Wednesday. “I was heavily taped around my thigh, my glute, just to make sure there was enough pressure to hold that groin.”
She further added that the injury would be hard to pinpoint as it runs deeper.
“The hard part is that the groin isn’t just an area you can go, ‘Oh it hurts right here,'” she said. “You feel it deep and you need a lot of deep treatment, whether it’s ice and heat and rest.”
Leslie also noted that rest was not the luxury Clark could afford as the Fever have just 21 games remaining to book a playoff berth, especially with the team barely keeping it’s head over water with a 12-11 record.

“You can go back out there and one move, one change of direction and, boom, you’re right back feeling that same type of pain,” Leslie opined. “It’s just a tough injury she’s going to have to manage.”
Clark has dealt with several injuries so far this season. She has struggled with both quad and groin ailments. Soon after the game, Indiana head coach Stephanie White said there wasn’t a concrete update.
“No update, just felt a little something in her groin, so we’ll get it evaluated and see what happens from there,” she said.
The former Iowa guard has missed 10 games this season. This comes as dire news for the star whose durability was lauded after she played all 40 games in her rookie year. She also suited up for all of the Iowa Hawkeyes’ games before making the WNBA.
Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in her 13 games played this year.
