A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces delivered a thrilling win over the Phoenix Mercury, snapping the Mercury’s six-game winning streak in a game that quickly became a social media moment.

After the game, Wilson posted on Instagram, joking about teammate Jackie Young nearly putting her “back in concussion protocol.” The post went viral, with fans and fellow players joining in on the fun. The win not only boosted the Aces’ record to 8-8 but also featured standout performances that highlighted why Wilson continues to make WNBA history.

A’ja Wilson Leads Aces Past Mercury in Nail-Biter

Wilson turned in one of her most impressive games of the season, finishing with 26 points, 18 rebounds, and seven assists. Her go-ahead layup late in the fourth quarter, after a key offensive rebound by Young, put Las Vegas ahead for good. The Aces’ win helped them even the season series with Phoenix and provided a much-needed momentum boost.

Young, who was jokingly accused by Wilson of almost sending her “back in concussion protocol” on Instagram, added 15 points and six assists. Jewell Loyd contributed 10 points, while the game itself featured 17 lead changes and 10 ties. Las Vegas held a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but Phoenix surged ahead with a 17-3 run. The Aces regained control in the final minutes with back-to-back baskets from Young and Wilson.

With this performance, Wilson tied Lisa Leslie’s WNBA record for most games with at least 25 points and 15 rebounds, reaching 13 such games. The win not only helped the Aces’ standings, but also underscored Wilson’s place among the league’s all-time greats.

Wilson Named 2025 WNBA All-Star Starter, Continues to Make History

Earlier this week, the WNBA announced that Wilson was named a starter for the 2025 All-Star Game. It marks her sixth career selection as a starter and seventh overall All-Star appearance. The game is set for July 19 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will be broadcast at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Wilson leads the league in blocks per game at 2.6, ranks second in points with 21.6 per game, and is second in rebounds at 9.9. She also ranks third in steals at 1.9 per game. For her efforts between June 23 and June 29, she was named Western Conference Player of the Week. This marks her 24th time winning the award, tying Elena Delle Donne for the third-most in league history.

On June 25, Wilson became the fastest player in league history to reach 5,000 career points, accomplishing the feat in just 238 games. Her recent performances have solidified her reputation as one of the most consistent and dominant players in the WNBA.
