Meet Singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard
A Grammy Award-winning gospel musician and songwriter, Tasha Cobbs Leonard was chosen to sing “Every Voice and Sing” alongside CoCo Jones, the daughter of former NFL player Mike Jones, who will perform the national anthem.
Cobbs Leonard has been active since 2006, but she really began her singing career in 2010, when she released her first album, “Smile.” In 2013, though, she released the album “Grace,” which featured a live rendition of “Break Every Chain,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance in 2014.
Cobbs Leonard entered the sports world with her 2017 album “Heart. Passion. Pursuit,” which featured the song “You Know My Name.” The song was brought up during the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals when former 76ers head coach Doc Rivers wanted then-Sixers James Harden to listen to it before Game 4 of the series.
Born Natasha Tameika Cobbs, she married Kenneth Leonard in 2017, becoming Tasha Cobbs Leonard. As an artist, Cobbs Leonard’s labels are EMI Gospel, Motown Gospel, and TeeLee Records (Tasha’s record label).
Beyond her signing, Cobbs Leonard has spent time in ministry. Starting in 2006, she toured America with Pastor William H. Murphy III for three years. She’s since been leading worship at the dReam Center and has managed its Worship and Arts department. She appeared in the film Sinners Wanted as herself in 2018.
Additionally, she and her husband founded The Purpose Place Church in Spartanburg, S.C., where both serve as pastors.
