2024 NFL Draft Location: Where Will This Year’s Event Take Place?

The NFL Draft changes locations every year. Where will it take place in 2024, and how was it decided?

The 2024 NFL Draft is almost here, with the event taking place on April 25-27. When it kicks off, it will be three straight days of college players making their way to the NFL, a life-changing event. With the NFL Draft becoming such a big event, the league has decided to switch its location every year. Where is the 2024 NFL Draft taking place?

How Is the NFL Draft Location Decided?

In 2024, the NFL Draft will take place in Detroit, the home of the Lions. The area around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza will serve as the event site. It was announced in 2022 that Detroit would be holding the event.

“With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the City of Detroit, the Lions’ passionate fan base and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said about the decision.

If a city is interested in hosting the NFL Draft, such as Detroit, they submit a bid each year that the 32 NFL owners vote on to decide. With the event being as massive as it is, the league considers factors such as venue size and return on investment.

At the draft, the NFL Draft Experience, the NFL’s interactive football theme park, will provide fans a free opportunity to participate in games, interactive exhibits, musical performances, autograph sessions, and even picture opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Who Decides the NFL Draft Location?

After all interested teams have submitted their bid for the right to host the draft, all 32 NFL owners come together to vote on it. The voting process usually takes place two years in advance. The voting process happens at the league’s annual owner meeting in Orlando, Fla.

Detroit officials had previously said that the draft would spotlight developments, showing the city’s progress. The Detroit Sports Commission raised $10 million for the event.

Which City Has Hosted the Most NFL Drafts?

Before, the NFL had landed on New York City as the draft’s regular host. It remained there for about a half-century until 2015. That is when the league changed to its yearly bidding process and future draft locations would be decided upon years in advance.

Besides New York, however, Philadelphia has hosted the event the draft the most times (12). Most recently, they hosted it in 2017. Behind them is Chicago, hosting it eight times, most recently in 2015-2016.
