MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins have not ruled out taking a wide receiver in Round 1 of next week’s NFL Draft.
So until they do, their pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. is probably in a holding pattern.
Are Miami Dolphins Still in on Odell Beckham Jr.?
The Dolphins made an offer to Beckham during his visit to team HQ last month, per coach Mike McDaniel. But the terms apparently weren’t to the former Pro Bowler’s liking.
During his annual pre-draft news conference Tuesday, Dolphins GM Chris Grier provided the following update:
“Nothing imminent on it. We’ve had some discussions back and forth a little bit, but as of right now, there’s nothing in the works to get anything done.”
There’s little reason for either side to do anything for at least a couple of weeks.
The Dolphins have a valuation in mind for Beckham. He has a price tag for himself.
But both of those numbers could change, depending on where the dozens of draftable players in this year’s deep receiver class end up.
The Dolphins are not against taking a receiver with the 21st pick (hello, Brian Thomas Jr.?), which would almost certainly end any consideration of adding Beckham since he would be presumably coming in to be their WR4.
“Business takes time, especially with players like Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career and still has really good football in front of him and has options,” McDaniel said at the NFL‘s Annual League Meeting.
“I think those conversations will be ongoing. We’ll see where they go. I don’t live in the world of crystal balling and I do stay in my lane as a coach. I’m definitely ready to coach him if we can come to an agreement, and I think both sides are trying to work towards that. We’ll see what happens.”
