Saturday’s packed slate begins early in the afternoon as the Atlanta Falcons head to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL preseason. Falcons fans got a glimpse of the future as rookie QB Michael Penix Jr. made his NFL preseason debut and moved the Falcons offense with ease. In two drives of action, the rookie was able to cook up two scoring drives to start the game.

With a 10-3 lead, Atlanta replaced Penix with Taylor Heinicke, and the lead slowly evaporated. Heinicke and the Falcons’ other QB, Nathan Rourke, struggled for much of the game, combining for seven completions on 24 attempts for just 48 yards. As for the defense, Miami was able to move pretty freely, scoring 20 points and winning the game.

Meanwhile, the Ravens had a much worse time, struggling to get much of anything going against the Philadelphia Eagles. Two early field goals from Justin Tucker were the only Ravens points for quite some time before tying the game with a touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.

While it looked like the game was destined for a tie, the Eagles forced the contest’s only turnover, stripping Ravens QB Emory Jones and converting a 49-yard field goal as time expired to win the matchup 16-13. After winning an NFL-record 24 straight preseason games, the Ravens have lost three in a row.

No one is hoping for a rebound in Week 2 of the preseason more than Ravens QB Jones. Here’s to more drives for the rookie QB who’s first NFL snap ended in disaster. He’ll need to make some plays to start climbing past Devin Leary and Josh Johnson in the backup QB depth chart. On the other side of the ball, the defense will be looking to contain the Falcons a little better than the Eagles’ offense.

Speaking of the Falcons, how will Penix look in his second week of action? The rookie’s first two drives were promising, and while Kirk Cousins may be the planned starter for the time being, having Penix waiting in the wings may not be such a bad idea after all. If his performance continues, Atlanta will have one of the more solid backup QB plans in the NFL, and that’s always an underrated asset.

Fantasy Players To Watch

Bijan Robinson’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

Analysis by Jason Katz: Perhaps I shouldn’t admit this, but there was a point during August of last year when I considered ranking Robinson as the overall RB1 … as a rookie. That’s how excited I was about his prospects. Fortunately, I came to my senses and left McCaffrey ahead of him.

While I avoided what would have looked horrible in hindsight, the process behind being super high on Robinson was there. The history of early first-round running backs producing very well in fantasy is strong. That, combined with Robinson’s obvious talent, made him worthy of being a first-round pick in fantasy. Unfortunately, we all failed to adequately account for Arthur Smith.

Lamar Jackson’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

Jackson’s production profile last year quickly reminded the fantasy football community how much of a cheat code the Ravens’ signal-caller can be for your fantasy team with a QB4 finish in just 16 games.

Jackson’s 3,678 passing yards and 307 completions on 457 attempts were all career highs by a wide margin, which signals the Ravens’ willingness to open up the playbook significantly in Monken’s first year as OC in Baltimore.
