The final matchup on the NFL games today schedule features the Cleveland Browns heading to Lumen Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
With Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston getting to rest in the Browns’ second preseason matchup, Tyler Huntley and Dorian Thompson-Robinson got a chance to make their case as the backup QB. They both struggled as their opportunity vanished in front of their faces.
The duo played poorly as Huntley threw two interceptions, and Thompson-Robinson tossed one of his own. Thankfully, they were the only two turnovers of the game, but they created enough of a hole that the Browns could not climb out of. The first interception ended a drive about to hit the red zone, and the Vikings turned the second into seven points.
Watson has yet to appear this preseason, but that’s expected to change in Cleveland’s preseason finale against the Seahawks. How will the Browns’ QB look in his first action since his season-ending shoulder injury in November 2023?
As for the Seahawks, Sam Howell got another opportunity to solidify his status as Geno Smith’s backup in Seattle. He took his second opportunity and ran with it, completing 11 of 15 attempts for 153 yards and a 23-yard touchdown to Easop Winston Jr. to give the Seahawks a 6-0 lead early on. In two appearances, Howell has directed the Seahawks offense to 25 points.
Smith has also been sidelined the past two weeks as the Seahawks determine which of Howell or P.J. Walker will be his backup. However, with the preseason finale on the horizon, Seahawks rookie head coach Mike Macdonald will look to get Smith some snaps against the Browns this week.
Also, pay attention to Seahawks kicker Jason Myers. While the veteran kicker has converted all his field goals, he’s missed two of three extra-point attempts.
