The Browns look to answer some questions in 2024. It’s been two years since Cleveland made the shocking decision to trade for former Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson — a trade that would involve a copious amount of picks and amount to just the signal-caller for the Browns. Watson has played in just 12 games over two seasons.
He missed the first 11 games of the 2022 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He missed various chunks of the 2023 season due to injuries. Watson signed a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract in the 2022 offseason. As of now, the Browns have yet to see a return on their investment.
After last season’s struggles under center, the Browns brought in Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley to compete with second-year QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the backup position. Should Watson go down again, Cleveland must know it has the best backup plan to win as many games as possible in his absence. While Thompson-Robinson showed some flashes, Winston and Huntley’s experience might give them an edge.
The defense remains as strong as ever, and the return of Nick Chubb should take pressure off the quarterback anyway. While the RB still has some time to go on his rehab, he’s rushed for 1,000 yards pretty much every season with the Browns, missing it his rookie season by four yards.
