Andy Reid has helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to quite a bit of playoff success in recent years, including three Super Bowl appearances and two titles in the last four NFL seasons alone. That bodes well for another deep postseason run as the Chiefs face off with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, as does Reid’s strong career track record in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Andy Reid’s Divisional Round Record
Reid’s plethora of deep playoff runs has been fueled by quite a bit of success in the early postseason rounds, particularly the Divisional Round. He is 10-3 all-time in Divisional Round clashes across 13 appearances between his time with the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. His teams have often found their way to at least the Conference Championship Game.
However, his first appearance did not go so well. His Eagles made it to the Divisional Round in the 2000 season and fell 20-10 to the New York Giants in what has become a rarity for the veteran head coach.
Reid grew from that first defeat, as he and the Eagles won their Divisional Round games the next four seasons. They reached the NFC Championship Game in three straight years from 2001-03, finally breaking through for a Super Bowl appearance in the 2004 season before falling 24-21 to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Reid’s Philadelphia squad then dropped its Divisional Round clash in 2006 before winning again in 2008 ahead of their conference title game loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
That was it for Reid making it to the Divisional Round with the Eagles, leaving his record in those games at 5-2 with the franchise.
He missed the Divisional Round for seven straight years, including his last four in Philadelphia and his first three with Kansas City after taking over as the head coach in 2013. A 2016 Divisional Round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and falling short early in 2017 made it nine straight seasons for Reid without a Divisional Round victory.

It’s been all smooth sailing from there, though, as the Chiefs have won their Divisional Round matchup each of the last five seasons.
Kansas City beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-13 in the 2018 Divisional Round, beat the Houston Texans 51-31 in 2019 on the way to winning the Super Bowl, and topped the Cleveland Browns 22-17 in 2020.
A now infamous 42-36 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the 2021 Divisional Round followed, and then the Chiefs had a 27-20 triumph over the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.
Reid is now 5-1 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs with Kansas City and will look to make it six straight victories entering Sunday’s clash with the Bills.
Whether that streak continues or Buffalo gets revenge for 2021 remains to be seen.
