The Buffalo Bills may need to get creative on special teams after punter Sam Martin went down with an injury in Monday’s Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. What will the Bills do without one of their specialists?
Bills Punter Sam Martin Injures Hamstring in Wild Card Game
Martin wasn’t injured while punting; he went down after the Steelers blocked a Tyler Bass field goal attempt just before the two-minute warning in the second quarter.
Martin was trying to chase down the loose ball but soon grabbed at his left leg. He spent time in the blue medical tent before returning to the Bills’ sideline.

The Bills announced that Martin was questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
Bass returned to the field early after halftime to practice punting in case Martin could not go. However, Martin also attempted several punts before the start of the third quarter.
Fortunately, Martin was able to return in the second half. After Buffalo’s three-and-out to begin the third quarter, he managed a 45-yard punt to the Steelers’ 40-yard line. Martin limped back to the Bills’ sideline after the punt.
Martin, 33, signed with Buffalo in Aug. 2022 after spending the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos. He inked a three-year, $7.5 million extension in March 2023.
