The NFL has provided us with many memorable moments over the years, some almost unbelievable moments leaving fans with jaws on the floor. You can’t make this stuff up … or can you?
Earlier this year, former Texans great Arian Foster questioned whether the NFL is scripted. Foster, a former player, knows the NFL is unscripted, and with so many athletes moving at the rate of speed that they are, it would be impossible to script.
That didn’t stop the NFL from having a little fun with the idea in their latest commercial. Who says the NFL stands for “No Fun League”?
Who Is in the Latest NFL Script Commercial?
The NFL Script Commercial produces cameo appearances from many of your NFL favorites. The commercial kicks off with Keegan-Michael Key kicking off what appears to be a script reading.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf is the first player we see in the commercial, and he has a hilarious line — we’ll get there in a moment. Giants DT Dexter Lawrence takes his seat next, as they sit next to NFL writers.
Bears QB Justin Fields smiles and swivels around in a chair. Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase looks on inquisitively. In full uniform, Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey mentions, “I thought this was a dress rehearsal.”
Key elaborates on last season’s script, mentioning Brock Purdy, aka “Mr. Irrelevant,” saving the day and the Kelce Super Bowl.
What Is the 2023 NFL Script?
“Week 1, fourth quarter, 3:02 left, Ja’Marr makes a no-handed catch,” one of the NFL writers explains. Chase replies, “No hands … how?” DK Metcalf chimes in, “I don’t need hands. I just catch it with my abs.”

Key ties it together: “We can call it the abacagrabra.”
“What if we wrote the Mahomes character out of the script entirely?” A writer’s query brings unanimous approval from the cast of football players, all of whom would be pleased if the 2023 NFL MVP sat this season out.
Mahomes, joining via Zoom, “Guys … not cool.”
Kirk Cousins makes his first appearance in the commercial, shirtless. “What if we played shirts vs. skins?” Key agrees with Cousins, “I like it, Kirko.”
“What if we replace my legs with actual wheels?” Justin Fields inquires. “I LOVE it!” agrees Key.
“Would it be possible for us to get to Page 2?”
The NFL may be unscripted, but the commercial is, and it is well written. One-liners abound as the NFL pokes fun at themselves and has a blast doing so.
