On Wednesday, the Washington Redskins placed cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on the injured reserve list. He now becomes the 10th Redskins player to land on the injured reserve list this season.
In their most recent game against the Dallas Cowboys, Rodgers-Cromartie played 55 snaps, but left the game early with an apparent leg injury. Although he returned, we now know that he played hurt the rest of the game. Ben Standig of The Athletic reported that he had torn ligaments in his ankle, thus the reason for the injured reserve designation.
The Redskins will have the option to activate Rodgers-Cromartie from injured reserve if they so choose, but they’ll have to see how he heals and whether it makes sense for them to use that designation on him.
The Redskins are 0-2 to start the season, and have a matchup with the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. They’ll follow that up with a trip to face the New York Giants before hosting the New England Patriots at home.
Rodgers-Cromartie had come out of retirement this offseason to join the Redskins after playing for the Oakland Raiders last season, but that time will now be cut short. In the first two weeks of the season, Rodgers-Cromartie had seven tackles.
