MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police outside of Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, according to social media posts of passerbys.
Details are still coming in, but it appears as though Hill was stopped and handcuffed facedown by police over some sort of traffic violation.
Hill still intends to play Sunday, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told reporters.
Hill’s incident evoked memories of pro golfer Scottie Scheffler being arrested for a traffic violation on his way to the PGA Championship.
Tyreek Hill Is Still Expected To Play Despite Incident
“I was just with Tyreek,” Rosenhaus told PFN. “He will be playing today. [He was involved in a] traffic violation entering the stadium.”
ESPN reports that Hill was cited for reckless driving. Hill was allegedly going faster than the law allowed. ESPN reports that after getting pulled over, Hill “got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer chose to place Hill in handcuffs.”
Rosenhaus told ESPN that “it’s a heartbreaking situation.”
“How things escalated to the situation that he was in … is mindboggling to me. I’m deeply concerned by that. Very troubled. We will be looking into it.”

The incident comes a little over a year after Hill was involved in an altercation at a Miami-Dade marina that launched both a police and an NFL investigation. Both investigations were closed without action by either entity,
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police,” the Dolphins said. “He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
Hill’s latest incident came just hours before the Dolphins’ 2024 season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill is coming off of back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons and was named by his peers as the NFL’s No. 1 player, regardless of position, this summer.
Response From Miami-Dade Police
