Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Trey Benson’s fantasy football outlook in 2024 is largely influenced by fellow running back James Conner and his availability.
While there’s some potential there, we also have some fantasy team names using his name that you could consider, like “They Forgot About Trey” in reference to the Eminem song.
Regardless, I’ll examine Benson’s fantasy outlook as a rookie and see if he’s worth a draft pick or not.
Trey Benson’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season
The ZeroRB fantasy football strategy is a long-standing methodology for building a squad. Benson is going as the RB39 in PPR leagues, about 20 spots after Conner, who’s going as the RB19.
According to TruMedia, Conner was productive in 2023. He averaged 5.0 yards per carry on 208 tries and had seven rushing scores. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry on first down.
If Conner continues at this level of production, it could affect how much Benson gets on the field.
Benson was drafted No. 66 overall in the third round in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He’s 6’1″ and over 220 pounds, so he checks the box physically.
In his final season in college, Benson had 138 carries for 838 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry.
At the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft, Benson ran a 4.39 40-yard dash.
The one silver lining for Benson is that, despite Conner’s ability, the veteran back has trouble staying on the field. He’s never played a full season and has missed four games in the last two seasons.
Is Benson a Good Fantasy Pick?
Benson is a fine pick as the RB39 and as he plays behind a player known to miss time each season. Of course, he will sit on the bench quite often, but Benson could be a key piece to win throughout the season should Conner miss time.
Benson is a big-play threat waiting to happen, so it’s just a matter of getting him on the field.

Benson could have a chance to take over. If Conner gets hurt and he excels, the team may not necessarily rush to get Conner back on the field.
Overall, yes, take Benson, have him chill on the bench, and just wait for his opportunity. His skill set will make him a stellar player to start should he get the bulk of the Cardinals’ carries.
